He just left today

My son has been in for almost nine months. PIR is the most amazing thing you will ever experience. You will be so amazed at the change in him when you see him in eight short weeks. Happy Holidays.

Hi Lynn,
Thanks for your notes. It's soooo good to know others have gone through what I'm experiencing. Sometimes I think I'm going crazy because my emotions are in such turmoil. I'm super busy at work these days, and also have an extracurricular (church-related) group that I'm involved with in putting on a huge event in May, so maybe it's good that I have other things going on and am not able to dwell too much on Tony's BC stuff. I do write him about every other day, and the days I don't write my husband usually does. Right now we're waiting for his grad packet. The letter he wrote last Friday said they mailed them, but it's nearly a week later and it has not yet arrived. And that coupled with a few comments in his letters about not passing a PT test (but was going to take it again), etc., make me wonder if his PIR is indeed 2/27. We would like to make airline & hotel reservations, but I really don't want to move too far ahead until we're certain we are going to Chicago in late Feb. If his PIR ends up to be mid-March, we can't go because of other obligations. I did buy a winter jacket though -- as you know it's something we don't need much of here in AZ and I had long ago gotten rid of the winter clothes from when we lived in Minnesota. Now hope I get to actually wear the jacket! Sorry for ranting like this. Guess it feels good to get it out. Thanks again for being a friend!

Lynn,
The nukes are represented in the video, they're working hard below deck on the submarines and aircraft carrier! :-)

Hi Lynn,
Thanks for your note. It's nice to hear from another Chandler mom. Today we got Tony's first letter (not counting the form letter). He had written it the second night he was at BC, and he said he wasn't liking it much. I'm sure it's no fun the first week or so, but I felt so bad. The tears started all over again. Did you go through a hard adjustment period when your son left last year? Any advice you can provide will be helpful! Thanks,
your friend & neighbor, Val

Hey Lynn,
Congrats on the new daughter n law!!! Sounds like Dan is doing great! We found out a little bit back that we are going to have another baby, my due date is May 8th. Eric turned in his release paperwork and it's in St. Louis right now going through all the steps to get him back in. Hopefully they won't take forever with it, but it's the Navy and hury up and wait, but at least they have it and he's been released from everything.
Other than that just getting ready for the holidays here. Can't believe x-mas is next month already, but I also look at it as, I'm half way to my due date. This baby was a BIG surprise and not what I was expecting the doctor to tell me that. We are hoping for a girl since we already have two boys.
I hope all is well for you, and I hope to hear from you again.

Hi Lynn - just wondering how your son did today?
Michael called me - very excited because he not only passed but ended up 2nd in his class! :)
He's glad to have that behind him and is now looking forward to coming home at Christmas (I told him he is going to freeze!). :)ann

Hi Lynn,
I saw your note on the nuke moms sight about your son graduating from A school on Nov 14th - My son is also graduating that day so they must be in the same class. Unfortunately Michael has to t-track while they fix his clearance so he won't be going right to power school. He is very glad to be just about finished with A school though.
Anyway - just thought I'd drop a note - it's always nice to have small connections. :)ann

Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
The most important thing I have learned is to let go. To believe in my child and the life he has chosen. I learned that I raised a very strong young man. He has shown me that he is ready to take what life has to give him and that he is going to do it with everything he has. He is a very awesome young man.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Just missing my son

Yesterday while I was at work Dan called, hey he said. I told him I was at work and couldn't talk long. For some reason after I hung up with him I almost fell apart. My co-workers said it was okay, they were great, they know Dan he worked at the same place for a few months before he left. My reaction surprised me, he has been gone for almost four months and he calls at least once a week, so it's not like I don't talk to him.
I guess I just really am missing him. He is my baby, now when I talk to… Continue

Letting Go

I realized today that letting go of our children is something we do slowly while we are raising them, without realizing it with each new step they take growing up we are letting go just a little bit farther to become independentant adults. From the day they are born we are preparing them for life on there own. From the first step they take, to starting school to driving a car we are giving them wings, to fly on there own.

My nest is empty now and at first it felt so lonely and quite, but now I r… Continue

About My wonderful Son

Dan is somewhat of a quite guy, until he feels comfortable, he is confident, and strong and a really great friend.
He has a passion for music, he loves his guitar and piano. When he was a little boy music was always what soothed him. He loves to have fun, go camping, hiking, he loves movies especially James Bond, he has the entire set of James bond DVD's he and his dad would sometimes spend a day watching James Bond together. He loves comedy, anything that makes you laugh.

As I think about him,… Continue
