I would personally be interested in knowing how many of the young men and women that are getting discharged from Boot Camp for what ever reason are getting an RE-4 rating. Which screws up alot of opportunities for them unless they fight and get it c…

My son went to BC June 26... He just turned 18 the month before. Was living with his dad and was very sheltered. While I had my misgivings of him leaving I wanted to support him 110%. Well all seemed well, then I got a call from him on June 18 sayin…

About me:
Well, my son is coming home from BC (discharged long story) and for three weeks I was a proud new Navy mom. Now I am a thrilled Navy mom. My son is coming home safe and somewhat sound and my daughter now 14 says in 4 years she is Navy BC bound. So, I am a still Navy mom.

Thinking about joining
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Write them letters. Lots of letters and show them you support them no matter what.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Honarable Discharge and on the PSD list

Well, Jacob called today. The CO signed off on his discharge and he is officially out of the Navy and headed home on Tuesday. Although I know a door is closing for my son, there are still alot of opportunites for him. And this was not all in vain. While he was only in Boot Camp for 3.4 weeks before getting sent to medical, the Navy taught him alot.

I very much look forward to meeting the young man coming home...

Will keep you posted.

And for all those who have loved ones graduating in PIR 8/2… Continue

Book Love You Forever

I was just looking up the cover image of the book love you forever online and ran across a blog that frankly ticked me off.
And in the spirit of free speech, this person has the right to voice there opinion but...in the same spirit I left my comments.

As Navy Moms some of you may be familuar with this book so I would like to share you my story on the book...
First a little of her blog where she finds the book creepy and (and you tell me if it ticks you off).

There are some mildly creepy sceContinue

Bootcamp Blues

Well, My son got his waiver and went off to boot camp on Friday. I have my phone glued to my side still waiting for the "phone call". We thought we would have had it by now. And when a neighbor knocked on the door 10 pm Saturday night, I must admit my heart went to my throat.

I guess that is what part of being a Navy mom is all about now. Knowing we shouldn't worry about them, but finding we can't help ourselves. Knowing that they are now in the hand of their superiors and ultimately G-ds hands… Continue

Son On Hold for Now

Well our family never does anything easy. We all went out to dinner last night to have a good meal with our recruit and even got him all tucked safe and sound in his room.

Got up this morning, the birds were chirping and G-d smiled down on the earth. Then he decided to once again play a practical joke on our family. My son is underweight. Seems MEDCOM passed a minimum weight requirement but failed to notify all the recruits. I must admit it is rather satisfying to see all the recruiters now run… Continue

My son's going away party

Well, the final countdown has begun.
I hadn't cried at all until last Friday, when i told a co-worker how i want to write him a letter to read on the plane. I fell apart, realizing he was really leaving.

Being the weekend parent, we had Jacob's going away party this past Saturday. I spent the better part of the night before and that day looking for "our special book". As a small boy he and I would read "love you forever" by Robert Munsch. I would sing the mommy parts and when it came to the son… Continue

I noticed your post in ship 17(5) Lyrae. It does pass. At least he is getting to legal so the ball is rolling. don't get upset if you don't hear much from him. they get 2 calls a week from Separations, usually short. Tell him(or write him) to call from Legal. They usually give them enough time to have a conversation and give you an opportunity to ask questions.Write to him often just encouraging uplifting stuff.

Hi Lyrae. Welcome to ship 17 (5) moms. Hope you are doing ok. I sent a friend request if you want to speak privately. I have lots of info posted at the top of Ship 17 moms. Links that can help answer questions. Every recruit can't deal with boot camp. Not the end of the world. PM me for specific questions if you wish.

God bless you! At least you'll have a little idea of what your daughter will go through. However, my friend has a daughter in the Navy and there was a lot of fighting going on at BC between females. Females? fight? There is something right for you son out there. One of the things I dislike the most about BC is that the kids have no idea what they are getting into until they get there. Take care and stay on N4M's!

Lyrae-- Please know that we are keeping your son in our prayers. I hope you hear word soon. This is a very confusing time for everyone. I'm also on this site many times a day. My heart breaks everytime I hear someone is struggling.

Lyrae ~ I've just had a few conversations with Jay on Navy Dad's, so thought I'd pop in and say 'hi' and welcome to N4M's. I noticed you had mentioned "Love You Forever." What an awesome book. I used to read that to Morgan, my corpsman, when he was younger. I don't know how many times I ended my letters with "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always." It looks like you've already received some good advice. The only thing I can add is all the emotions that you may go through, that others think is unnecessary or don't understand, they are normal. Any mom you talk to on this site will probably say, 'I know that feeling' or 'I've been there'. We are here for you to encourage, support, provide info, whatever it may be. That's why a lot of us mom's stay here. We want to pass on what we were given while our sailors were in bc. Please don't hesitate to stop by and say 'hi'. I'm on the site everyday. Truth be known, I'm on here multiple times!
