When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
support my son in all he has to do. never judge, question or criticize his actions. be his best friend, listen but don't judge. encourage him and let him know how very proud I am of him.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Hey Mama, don't know how "settled" and quiet life will be with a "wildcat". With a Latina wife, there will never be a dull moment. Just ask MY hubby. hee hee. He says I am "complimicated" and fun and he never quite knows what to expect next, and that's after 22 years together! LOL I'm sure she will challenge your son, take great care of him (we're quite nurturing too-"familia" is everything) - and their future kids- and make life interesting, perfect match for a former SEAL who thrives on adventure!

MamaSEAL,
RE: Genie's discussion "my son is totally scared"
You tell it like it is much better than I did. I just deleted my post because I didn't want Genie to feel worse. In my original post, I had stated that my son (a nuke officer on a sub) would not be too sympathetic to her son because he feels everyone has the responsibility to do his/her homework & research before signing up. Furthermore, he would expect every sailor to man up afterward; however, he wouldn't want someone "on the brink of an emotional breakdown" near him or his men. That being said, PTSD is a serious issue with out military. I had reread my deleted comment a number of times to make sure that I had included supportive words before I sent it. Unfortunately, one of the ladies didn't read my entire post only the words that she found objectionable. So I thought it was best that I deleted the post. People forget we are a nation at war (my son would say correction mom - a military at war). My son had thought about going SEAL at one point.
I am letting you do the straight talk from now on.

Hello! Thank you for the kind words. Yes, I am soooo very proud of My Baby Boy, My Son, My Sailor! My Son is my only child and I have had a lot of hard hits along the way because of how a Single Parent is looked upon by most and I always could not be there for my Son like other families who have both Parents, becuase I was out working to provide for us. So the song by Sarah Evans "looks like we made it" fits us like a glove! My Son has been overseas since March 09 and he is only 19yrs. old as of 7/14 and has been in for 1 year as of 7/21 and he is a Intelligence Specialist/Naval Special Warfare attached to Unit 3. Me and my Son have always been very close and still are to this day, so it was very hard to see him leave and I felt like half of Me left with him and I miss him sooo very much that I have no words to express it and yes, I cry a lot and walk around lost half the time. I know my Son is out being the man I raised him to be and doing what he wanted to do and loves what he is doing. I consider myself very lucky that we talk at least 2-3 times per week or more on the phone and or by email. I pray to the Good Lord that he will keep My Baby Boy, My Son, My Sailor and his Seal Team safe and all of the rest of our troops so they all can come back home again. Sandy Kurt's Mom

Wow..he sounds like an amazing son. There are also people in my sons life that are not giving the support I feel he deserves. I will alway be his cheerleader and encourage him thru every step. I know my worries are not necessary but it is my heart as a Mother and I can't help it. He has wanted this since he was about ten and has fought very hard to get where he is. So far he is doing good but I have only recieved one letter, I hope another one comes Thursday. Thanks for your advice and I will look forward to your help in the near future.

Thanks for accepting...my son is just begining his Navy adventure and has a very long and exciting journey to his trident. You have so much knowledge and I am hoping you can help me thru. The crazy mom name...my son left his cell phone on the meps bus. I recieved a call about three hours later and the guy on the other end said "I found this phone on the bus and when I went thru the phone directory I found one that said , My crazy Mom" I am thinking you would be her." After my son left I was a mess and after he called about the phone I really felt better. So hence the name Crazy mom.

Thanks for the reply. He is very interested in buying a house there, he just doesn't know where he will stay while he is looking. Good to know he can stay on base, as he didn't know if there were barracks there.
