Hi, haven't posted (to this group) so of course when I finally do, I ask a lot. Need prayer for our family coping with the "Hey, I'm out of the nest, I've been doing what I want for 2 months...I like living wild" child. I sort of dread the leave-tim…

Denise 1, that is really sad. I pray they crack down so no more sailors die. Has your son changed his ways?

a sailor was just lost this past weekend. They say that alcohol was factor. I hope the crack down too. My son was in trouble of being off base and drinking. He got 45 day restriction and cut in pay for a month. He lucky I wasnt there. He was only 18

I'm glad the Navy is cracking down.

The Navy is cracking down hard on alcohol abuse... now, if you have two "alcohol-related" incidents (i.e. getting injured while intoxicated, fighting while under the influence) you can be discharged. So it's much, much more than DUI. The Navy spends…

Sorry to be late coming to this party...I haven't been on here much since my son graduated BC. I, too, was shocked to scrape away the veneer of this site and see the marketing machinery at work. They own everything we put up on this site, I've put l…

Thanks Pat for organizing this and making it easy for a newbie to participate. Nothing like jumping into the water right away when one's son decides to become a sailor! Thanks, I was blessed to be able to help.

Paula, I disagree about the website. No one asks proof if you really have an AC, AM, etc. Also, look at the fineprint of who owns all the "info" that is put up on this web site: your pics, etc. You will be surprised. Thanks AblueOK, I think we all n…

The building was also drafty, so be prepared to be cold when you sit. I had a big overcoat, which was nice because then I could fold it up to sit upon. We didn't get there as early as I would have liked, so we had to sit in the balcony, but that was…

About me:
My son had his PIR on 10/2/09 and we were blessed to attend and be able to see him throughout the ceremony. The Navy has taught him important skills and reminded him of traits that my child has heard from his father & I for years! The Navy suits him, I was very pleased to see.

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
The Navy is able to accomplish in 9 weeks what it takes most of us 25 years to learn. I pray it sticks.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Old enough to serve not legal to drink

It doesn't make logical sense, but it is legal. They have to swear in to defend the laws of this country, so let's not encourage them to break the ones we disagree with. As they say down here, "that dog don't hunt."

PIR for divided families

...it can be done with class maybe it doesn't seem like it is possible to do that, but in our case it was. The growing for me came in realizing it could be done. The joy now, is knowing God orchestrated it all better than I could have.

We spent the first 1/2 of time with our sailor and they got the rest. My sailor had fun with all I believe. There was a whole weekend to divide up! I never could have imagined this would happen. Boot camp shaped me as much as my son!

IF Rudyard Kipling had a Navy Mom praying for him at RTC

If your child keeps their head when all your friends' kids are losing theirs,
If your child trusts themselves when others doubt,
If your child keeps the bathroom cleaner than you do,
If you can wait for a letter and not be tired by waiting,
If your child can force every nerve and sinew to serve their watch,
You can talk with those who do not share your love of the Navy and keep your Sailor's honor untarnished.
Because you can fill the unforgiving minutes, hours, and days of boot camp with… Continue

The NAVY may accelerate their life ...

but God is using this (stage of my son's life) to accelerate my faith. I am surprised at the outcome.

How precious is the written word—

from my recruit.

We just received our first "real" letter. It was actually a couple of days' worth lumped together in one envelope. That made it all the more real. We were so excited my husband & I almost argued over who got to keep possession of the "letter" today while he goes to work. I wanted to scan it and send to all our family; he wanted to copy and post it beside his office. Dads feel vindicated (variations of "you were right, Dad," are read between the lines; Moms weep that… Continue

The pictures of the PIR are fantastic. I so wish I could have attended my granddaughters. I'm a bit jealous. I can only imagine the emotions when those doors and you see the new sailors. Wow!
