Profile Information

About me:
Day Care Teacher of 4 year old children - 28 years
Married 28 years
Tim is a Senior Auditor for a State agency & works with computers in his work - almost 35 years, including working & college full time at the same time
Husband & I have had 7 children
Our daughter, Breanna (Bre) joined the Navy 15-August, 2007 & is now stationed in Japan as a Master at Arms.
We have wonderful and supportive recruiters who keep checking up on us and continue to communicate with her as well.
We are looking to retire to FL when my husband gets a new job there. He said it is almost to the point where it would cost him to not retire. And no, he's not some old guy either.

I/We look forward to being able to help others as a member of NavyForMoms.
I am here to support or represent my:
Breanna
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted, Overseas
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Needed to learn more about it, Was proud, Encouraged him/her
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Bre has matured incredibly in so many ways. What a difference between the time she graduated from high school, and even before, and with her graduation from Boot Camp. We're thrilled that so many positives have come about. She's learned to really and trully believe in herself. She did a 10 day missionary trip to Peru in 2005 and a 20 day missionary trip to Kenya in 2007 that made her see so much that was right but taken for granted in the USA. That may be why she followed through, on reflection, to join the Navy. At least the Navy is paying for her travel this time. She's a traveler like her Dad, who used to travel around the country doing auditing work. The missionary work may have started to mature her, but the US Navy focused her maturity and has made her, definitely, a much better adult and US citizen. We couldn't be more proud of her. So, for us, N4M rocks and so does the USA and the US Navy.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Post Graduation Weekend Suggestion

Greetings:

For those of you N4M families that attend graduation during a three weekend, please consider getting a weekend special fare from MERTA. We attended a graduation Labor Day weekend and there was a $5.00 per person special by MERTA, which has a stop at Great Lakes itself, that allows you unlimited use on most lines for the entire 3 day weekend. It is well worth it as it is $9.50 R/T as regular fare. There is a website as well (can't remember what it is, though) for MERTA so you could fi… Continue

Gifting Idea for Our Sailors

Greetings to All Interested N4M Members:

We have sent a package to our daughter, Bre - in Japan for two years, of beef jerky.

There is a company located in Stillwater, NY, which is approximately a 1/2 hour from our home, called Damn Good Foods. They will ship, at a wholesale, or near wholesale cost, packages of beef jerky to our family members in any military service branch as long as it's a military address, including overseas as well as domestic bases.

The company has a website, but the com… Continue

Mary-Ellen & Tim,
Thanks for the info. As soon as we can communicate with Adam, we will let him know what you said. We would be coming from Colorado Springs, but really want to be able to make it. (I was laid-off and forced to take a reduced retirement, but with any luck should be able to get another job, so we can save up some.)
We've never missed an important day in the lives of either of the kids. This one will probably be one of his most important. We are so proud that he made this decision. He should really be able to turn his life around and give him more confidence in himself.
How did it affect your daughter?

thanks for your answers. He will contact us with an address we can write to when he can? A little confused by acronyms. PIR - pass in review-when he graduates from basic? 'A' school at GJ ? He said he will be going to Pennsacola almost immediately for his Aviation Mechanic schooling-is that what the A school is? What is NEX? How long is basic? 60 days? Adam said not to worry about coming for graduation since he will be leaving almost immediately, but if we can, we want to be there. As you can tell, we don't have alot of info. Thanks and God bless you.

Hello, It's been a while since I've written. You helped me alot last year when my son, Adam, first signed up. But his basic training was so far away at that time, I sort of let things go. Well, not so much now. He left Sunday, March 26. Now the questions are really coming. What do we expect now? I know we won't hear from him for weeks. What happens at basic? My husband (air force) and son-in-law (army & national guard) say we are being silly, but my daughter and I are still alittle teary. I told her I would write to others that would understand - other moms and little sisters. Can you shed any light for us? Or any other moms and sisters out there. I can't remember just how the site works. Thanks so much! Pam Tower "Colorado Mom"

Hello, friends! How are you and Bre doing?
I haven't been on in a while. Trying to study for the Marriage and Family Therapy exams. I want that license so bad...
We are also going to Brazil for almost 3 weeks, to celebrate my mother's 83rd birthday. Nathan is planning to go from Japan and back to Japan.
More news later
God bless,
Heloisa

Mary Ellen & Tim- Hope things are well and settling down a bit. Waiting at the hospital can be so exhausting and not knowing even more so.
The white cloth on Sarah's face is actually a scarf and it part of the very cold weather uniform. Graduation day the temp was 7 with lots of wind. I am sure the windchill factor was -10 or more. On that day it was required on their outside uniforms. The next day was considerably warmer and the scarves weren't required.
Rock and Bowl sounds like fun. I spoke with Sarah this morning and she said she was going bowling tonite. This is her first full weekend liberty since her arrival at Great Lakes and it just happens to be a three day one, with President's Day Monday. Maybe she can catch up on some sleep finally.
Ahhhh a job in Florida? Sounds good after this winter. My Tim is in school, since his company moved out of the states. Hopefully when he starts looking for a job, the economy will take a turn for the better and there will be something out there. We're not old enough to retire, but kinda old to changing careers. We just look at it as a new adventure. There's not a lot we can do about it and worrying sure hasn't helped.
We are hoping to make a trip to Great Lakes in a few weeks. Kind of want to make sure Old Man Winter has left us. Don't really want to make another drive on the ice.
Being able to talk to Sarah on the phone all the time, sure makes life so much easier. We've only had one call from her when the homesick bug hit. I tried to tell her, I have been away from home for 35 years and I still get homesick. LOL Guess that is just a sign of a good family!
Take care of yourself and your family. Gotta keep going to be able to give out the support the others need. I will keep you and yours in my prayers! Be well.

Mary-Ellen & Tim- We made it home from PIR late last night! In time to see the final plays of the Superbowl. PIR was fabulous. Sarah was on the end of a row and very easy to recognize. (Once we were sure it was her, the tears started flowing) Beautiful ceremony! We got to spend time with her each day. She is moved into her room at corps school. She seems a bit overwhelmed and really tired. (She had watch Friday and Saturday) Of course anytimen you move to new surroundings and have so many changes at once it can be a bit much. Thank you for all your advice and support. Hope all is well with you, Bree and your family.
