Sorry to hear that Keri is unsure of what she wants to do. Justin has offered to chat with her when they get back, if she wants. Maybe over a cup of coffee in the Web center? Sometimes the freshman need an upperclassmen to reassure them, or at least be honest about what the program really involves for the next three years. It gets easier, after the first semester, he says. If she wants to talk to him on campus, let me know. He's leaving Sunday afternoon to head back.

Mary,
Is Keri home yet? How did she do in the storm last week? Justin had H1N1 and missed 7 class days, so he was pretty happy they closed the University for two days because of the storm. He used it to catch up on the work he missed. He just had his aviation physical, and has to have his vision corrected to 20/20 with PRK over the Christmas break in order to qualify for flight school. He still has to take the ASTB (flight boards). He has a long way to go to qualify and it's no guarantee.
I'm killing time waiting for his flight that was due here in Albany at 2:30, but has been delayed until around 6:00. Hope Keri is doing well. There is a recent group picture of the Unit on the ODU NROTC web page. Have a Happy Thanksgiving...

Mary,

I read your post on the prayer wall where you mentioned your daughter is homesick. I understand that feeling! Yvonne and I would still love to have your daughter join us for our activities on Saturday evening or Sunday afternoons if she is interested. We've got anywhere from two or three young people to five or six coming over on the weekends. I know it wouldn't be home home, but it's better than being in the dorm.

He seems to be having a challenging semester with 20 credits all at the 400 level. He is also working a part time job. The job may have to go. I'm hoping to hear from him tonight. He turned 21 last week, but did not have time to celebrate, so I 'm sure he made up for it this weekend.
Glad to hear Keri is doing well. Here is tip.....Tell her to load up her schedule. He had a few semesters where he took it easy...15 credits, and it's come back to bite him senior year. They have something like 27 Navy credits they have to take on top of their major. Only 12 count towards their minor in Military Leadership, the other 15 or so...I'm not sure what they do. They are just extra credits that are mandatory. It's like a whole semester of classes! Easier general ed. classes are a must over the summer at a local community college, to stay on track.

Hi Mary, Just checking in to see how you and Keri are doing. Is this the week she leaves? Hope all is well.

O week drop-off is a little disconcerting. They'll take the kids and then talk to the parents. You'll all meet back together a little later and see them take the oath and say good-bye. After a few days, she'll be able to call you. Don't be surprised if she is really tired and emotional. Encourage her to stay strong, that it's only a few more days, and that she will be so proud of herself on the 28th. So will you. Take care, good luck. Drop me a note after you get home and let me know that she made it through. It will be the first step in a challenging and rewarding year.

Hi Mary,
Just wanted to touch base again before the start of the school year. How is Keri? Has she been PT'ing to get ready for O week? Justin is in Pearl Harbor finishing up his first class summer cruise and will be home Saturday. Just in time to turn around next Friday and head back to ODU. He's moving in a little early, because he has an off campus apt. I'm sure Keri has received everything from the unit at this point. Let me know if you have any qestions, I'll be glad to help.

My daughter has had very long hair for the 9 years that she has been in. She just knots it up in a bun.
