So how did your son do in Pensacola? My son is doing PIR this month and will be going to Pensacola for A school after. Any personal experience or advice you can share? Thanks, Megan H

When my son was there, we stayed at the Navy Lodge. He was able to get us checked in with his ID and it was a nice, clean place. It was also an on base lodge, so it was close to where we needed to be. Check into it. Congrats :)

If for some reason you cannot get room at The Navy Lodge, I stayed at Comfort Inn. There is no pool there, and it is definitely no frills, but they had a free shuttle to PIR and that alone was worth the no pool. My son did not want to "do" anything…

Be sure and put "PIR hints" in your search as there are many discussions on this. Best wishes and we are proud of your son!

The further out you book your airline tickets the less expensive they "should" be... I highly recommend the Navy Lodge - $65 per night including tax. You will have to make the reservation in your Recruit's name - tell them you are attending PIR. If…

Forgot to tell you.... You should have received a form letter from the Navy with your sons address on it. I got mine in 6 days (kept a journal, wrote everything down) If you STILL haven't gotten the form letter call the recruiting office, I'm thinki…

Hi! It was exactly 3 weeks to the day that my son arrived in G.L. that I received the first call from him. I don't count the first day 30 second call... too short to count in my book :) The first call was reward from his whole division doing well on…

What if it's been 2 weeks and no contact?

My son left for BC 2 weeks ago and I have never gotten a call or a letter. I did receive a box of his things in the mailbut that's it. Has anyone else had this experience of no contact at all?
Thank you to everyone who has responded...how do I find out where to send letters to him (we would LOVE to send him letters)but I have no address to send them to.

Your welcome Megan. The room we had at the Lodge during our stay for graduation did not have a kitchenette, but the one in Ct. and Wash. did. I could not stand not going to where Brian was once to visit him. It's a mom thing. When Brian found out ther was a kitchenette, he asked me to cook for him and a couple of his shipmates. It was like beinging at home feeding "young men". Plan on your sailor wanting to take long showers at the hotel and just wanting some "be myself time". Brian's mom, Sally

If possible, stay at the Navy Lodge. I stayed at the ones in Ct. and Wash. and was very comfortable and safe. As soon as you know the date, make flight plans. Brian's mom, Sally

Thank you Megan for your input. My son's recruiter has told him that we should hear in the next day or two. It's a frustrating/stressful situation. He is also in college and has missed some time in class juggling both his Navy pursuit and being successful in his classes. I guess all good things come in time. Hanging in there. Thanks again for the input and I hope that you and your son are doing well. Does he have a date to start Boot camp yet?

Dear Megan,
How are you doing today? This NAvy for moms is such a blessing.

When does your son leave for Boot Camp?

My daughter Kim, when we were waiting, those last two months speeded up !

Are you having a farewell party/dinner for your son?
We had Kim's in our favorite Chinese Buffett. They have a private party room.

Your son will be fine in the Navy. Once he gets into the rountine of Boot Camp and over being homesick, he'll like it. They all do, believe it or not.

Boot Camp isn't as scary as us moms picture it.

When he leaves, he'll call you the next day, to let you know he arrived safely.

My daughter Kim is in Virginia on the USS Normandy. She was trained to read the radar.

I hope to hear from you again.
Take care and God bless,
Barbara
