About me:
My name is Melanie and I have lived in Ohio all my life. I have been married for 26 years to my husband. We have two boys ages 23 and 21. My oldest has been in the Navy for 3 years now and is a DC (Firefighter). He is married to my daughter-in-law Katrina who was also in the Navy. They have a son Liam who is almost 17 months old and are having another boy in April. My son and his family were stationed in Yokosuka, Japan for the last three years, returning to the states this past June. They are now stationed in Norfolk, VA for the next year and a half. We are so happy they are closer now so we can enjoy our grandson.
I am here to support or represent my:

Hello! I also have a DC stationed in Norfolk. Come join the Ohio group! It's a great way to make connections with other Navy families closer to home :)

Hi Melanie -

My daughter Katie is just starting out in the Navy. She is currently at A school for Damage Control. Wow! 3 years in Japan. Did you ever get a chance to see him while he was there? Has he been happy with his time in the Navy? I'm here in Michigan.

Hi Melanie,
I'm sure you are glad to have your son and his family back in the states now. My son is on the Eisenhower, whose home port is Norfolk. They are under weigh right now and will be going on deployment next month. I'm not looking forward to it. He normally calls almost every day when they are in port, but when they are at sea he isn't much for e-mailing me. I'm excited about all the places he gets to see though. I was hoping that he would get stationed overseas sometime so that he would have the opportunity to experience a different culture and all that (not to mention it would give us an excuse to travel - lol). But being in Norfolk has spoiled me since he can come home every so often or we can go there and it's not that big of a trip.

Hi Melanie,
I was looking through the Ohio members list and saw you were from Warren. I live in Austintown. I haven't seen too many moms from this area. My son has been in the Navy since he graduated from Fitch in 06. He is on the Eisenhower and is getting ready to deploy soon. I'm not looking forward to that. I like having him in port. At least I can talk to him and he can drive home every so often when he has a long week end or something. I see your son was in Japan. Did you get to go visit him there?

Welcome to Navy 4 Moms, this is an exciting website and very informative... We would like to invite you to the Blue Candle Lighting event that occurs in your home anytime you wish to light a candle for your recruit sailor or the military in general. This is done to honor their service during the holidays, birthdays, special events or if you just want to. The Home for the Holidays/Blue Candle Moms also ask you join us in this group. This event and group has no special connections to "any one group" We are all Navy Moms, Wives, and we became Blue Candle Moms.... this included everyone on this website. Please come join us and share your stories and your lightings and your holidays with your child...this was done because some moms were not having their sailors home, and we are support group that can share feelings and fears. Annouce your child is coming home or the despair of knowing on certain holidays it is your sailor we light the candles for. To honor them for the service in the past present and future. To honor those that gave the Ultimate Sacrifice for our freedom. We celebrate the freedom to be Blue Candle Moms and the freedom to light our candles anytime we choose. Please think about our group and the Event and when responding tell where you lit your candle, and the reasons for your paticular lighting. the event will continue and once you rsvp come in anytime and update your lightings
