About me:
Hi everyone,
I was a DIV 930 mom with a PIR of 6/12 and now am the Mom of A USN Corpsman. My Sailor is set graduate A-school 10/2/09 We are from Southwest Missouri and love to hunt, fish, camp, and any kind of water sport. I have 3 boys (well 4 if you count thier dad. LOL) I am looking forward to chatting with all of you and offering any support I can. My Dad is retired Navy and spent alot of his years with the Naval Flight Demonstration Team Blue Angels in Pensacola. Yep, I'm a Navy brat and now a Navy Mom. I also am a Christian who has total faith that God will see our boys through this next phase in thier lives. I pray for all of them regularly and ask that you do the same. They need our support, encouragement and Faith. So long for now. In Christ, Melody.

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
The first part of this amazing journey has taught this mom more patience then she ever new possible!! There were many days and nights of tears and crying myself to sleep as I experianced empty nest and the unknown. By the unknown I mean not knowing from minute to minute if your son was ok, if he was sick or hurt or if he might be lying in his bunk crying because he was homesick or lonely or hurting. Despite the tears this first leg of the journey has been amazing and we have an amzing son who we now call "sailor". To all you new navy moms just hang in there God is Good!!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Melody,
My son failed one of his tests and was in quite a tizzy about it. He studied and went back and kicked its butt. He called me at work and told me. He said "my mama did't raise no quiter". He's finished his labs and is presently finishing his clinicals. He will be graduating 8/20. The Navy wants them to succeed. Tell your son to keep his head in it and yes if he has needed help or a tutor keep using it. My son did not lose any of his leave time. In fact we saw him twice and he has a couple of weeks between his next duty. We will be seeing him soon.

Melody, I noted that you mentioned his losing leave if he flunks a test. If he is having problems with grades, please have him talk to his instructor regarding a tutor. They usually have 4 per class (the top 4 students) . My son was one and he said that once they started working with someone, that there wasn't one Sailor that flunked a test or tlunked out of the class. He used flashcards for himself as writing the information down helped him remember stuff and he carried them and read them over and over to help retain information. He used 3x5 cards and I guess noone else did anything like that. But many started and found it really helped. I just thought I'd pass this info on to you...hopefully his grades are good and this is all for naught. As I always say, take what information you need and leave the rest...it's not problem for me. Also, you might pass onto you son that with Chris' class it was about the 9th or 10th test that the Chief decided to do a surprise personal inspection. Out of 81 in his class, only 8 passed and the rest lost their liberty status. He checked if boots were shined, if uniforms ironed correctly, the whole thing. I don't know if they do the surprise thing with every class or just his. But you might want to forwarn your son of it's possibility. Have a great day.

Getting married... Alrighty, there is a Navy Chit he has to get and fill out. That goes through his a school, he should talk to a chaplain or his commanding officer. They'll give him all the info he needs to have it completed, they can get married on or off base. After the Request Chit is filled out, they have to attend marriage counseling classes. I haven't started mine yet, but I think there are only 3 classes. It is just to inform the two of them about how military life will be. How anything she does legally effects his security clearances... Stuff like that. Also she'll be set up with an omsbudsman. After the Request Chit is cleared then they are free to go get their license through the state. In IL there are no requirements other than a driver's license and waiting 24 hours before turning in the paperwork signed.

Hi Melody,
I had a Mom that posted on my page yesterday. Her group is PIR on the week after us and she wants to know if we have had any problem(s) getting a response from Flannagans. I think she is getting a little nervous because they have 75 people who have RSVP'd. Any advice to give her?
Also I love your pics of your son's swearing in. I wish I had been there when my son was sworn in. :(

Hi Melody,
I just finished up a conference at work and haven't been on here much lately. Do I need to do something special to get a button for the meet n greet? I did RSVP for the event, but that's all.

Hi Melody :) i'm a gf from the PIR group. I was wondering if you could add an extra button to the 217 group. My mother in law is coming and it is her son at BC. She is so busy with work she doesn't have time to participate on here but she will be at the meet and greet. I don't want her to feel left out of being a Navy mom, I appreciate it greatly!!! Thanks for setting up the meet and greet! It will be a blast!

In the link that I showed you, I saw some Navy guys in the very beginning. The announcer said it was the Navy band from Great Lakes. But I just got another letter from Jason today and he said that they are performing in a parade in a town 30 min outside of Chicago! So the hunt for more video continues! He also said that their division is #1 in their graduating class. Way to go 930!!!!!!!

Hey,
I think you too have a recruit in division 219. I am wearing a blue skirt suit.. had it for years and a gold scarf and heels. My father was military so I feel this is what he would have expected.
I got my first call 2 days ago. He is doing well other than a case of bronchitis.
