(This is part 2!!!)

So, have you talked to your son since the ship came back in? Where did they go when they were deployed? I can't wait to hear stories ... it's so exciting! Cody is still sleeping on the barge - he told me today that he has to finish one last class before he moves onto the ship . He also told me that the barge was a medical ship during the Vietnam was and that it was used as a morgue!!! Creepy!!! I asked him if he was weirded out sleeping on it and he said he just goes to sleep! LOL He did say that there were stories about it being haunted... imagine the stories he will have to tell his kids and grandkids! :-)

What is your son doing now? I have so many questions, it's crazy! If they are AO's and they aren't out, what the heck do they do all day??? Does it make you crazy being so far away and not knowing? :-) I know it makes me a loony Mama!!!

Well, I am getting ready for bed... I have a full week for the first time all month! November is always a light month for teachers here in NJ! I hope all is well with you and to hear from you soon!

Hugs,

Sue

Hi Michelle -

How was your Thanksgiving? Did you hear from your son? I sure hope you did and that he is doing well. Is this your first big holiday without him home? It was for us and it was a really tough one but we got through... I guess things get easier as time goes but I can't imagine that it's ever really easy. .

I have heard from Cody several times even though he still doesn't have a phone. He has been using the phones and computers on the base. He says they can use them, free of charge! That's a plus!

I hear so many similarities in our boys - down to the wishing he hadn't nlisted and it being too late to do anything about it. It's hard for me to imagine being on the other side of the world, alone, and facing so many new circumstances. This will be an experience in growing up and I believe that is the lesson m son needs to learn, more than any other right now. I just continue to pray that he will make good choices, work hard, and find things getting better with each day that passes.

(I will continue this on another post!)

Thank you for your love my new friend. I feel better that you understand. One wonderful outcome is that I have his voice on my inbox message of my cell. I can listen any time. Now that is cool! I had a niuce Thanksgiving with church friends. I missed my family but I decided to have Christmas dinner here for all the single/elderly/ or needy people. My brother also is invited. He is mentally itt but loves to be here, once a year. He is hard to manage but life is too short. God bless you! Enjoy today. Here in New Jersey, it will be mid 40s. Now at 6:15 AM it is 38. COLD> I have a fire burning, my honey is asleep, the home is peaceful. I will be getting ready for church soon. God bless you. I love this time of the day!!

Hi again, Michelle!

Sorry for being so long to respond but this week has been insane at work... and I'm feeling really bummed about Cody. I've talked to him 3 times since he got to Japan and I realize it will take a while for him to get used to things but he is so unhappy... and that breakes my heart. How long did it take for your son to feel OK over there? I just hate not being able to make things better, like I always could when he was a kid. I guess this growing up thing is just as hard on us as it is on them huh?

Cody told me about his sleeping space... yikes! He said there is about 18" between the racks. I would go nuts! :-)

So, tell me about your other kids. What do you do at the AFB? Are you a military family from way back or are you new to it like me? New Hampshire... I spent many summers there on Great East Lake. What part of the state are you in?

Well, I am going to run. Talk to you real soon!

Night!

Michelle!!!

This is a real luxury today, spending so much time on N4M! I am getting spoiled... but that's OK I guess!

I have been looking at my pics on here and photo albums here at home all day - spending a lot of time reminiscing!

What exactly is your son doing now? I have no idea what their actual jobs will be... they can't load ordnance all day!
How is he doing getting used to living on the ship? Cody is really worried about that after seeing their racks on a DVD we saw! WOW! Very tight, close quarters!

So, does your son have a computer or are their computers available on the ship? Cody doesn't have one. What about a phone? Did he get one when he got to Japan? It must have been like Christmas morning hearing his voice....
I can just imagine the joy you felt when you heard him!

Where do you live? I am in New Jersey... born and raised! I am married to a wonderful man Paul, who is a School Psychologist, and have a 23 year old daughter who is a speech therapist. I also have a 19 year old step-daughter who is a freshman at Temple, and a 25 year old step-son who manages a Starbucks in South Philly. As for me, I have been teaching English to 7th and 8th graders for 23 years!

Well, I've gone on long enough. Hope to hear from you soon!

Have a great night!

Hey Michelle -

I can feel a bond forming with you already and I am so happy. Can you imagine going through this by yourself?

It's so funny that you mentioned going into your son's room... right before I signed on, Cody called me. He just arrived in Seattle and I was sitting on his bed talking to him. I just wanted to be near his things when I talked to him... I guess if we said that to people who weren't Moms, it may sound a little weird... I'm glad you understand.

So tell me, what is G4? I'm still trying to understand all the Navy lingo! What does your son do? How long will the ship be out? Is he liking the Navy life? So many questions... :-)

I would LOVE to plan a trip....

Thanks for letting me know that what I'm feeling is normal. Cody's flight leaves at 1AM PST so he will be at the USO for the entire day before he starts the last leg of his trip... it's going to be a long day. I'm blessed to know that I have such great N4M support as we all continue on our Navy adventure!

Hi Michelle - I've been the doting Mom for the past few weeks while my son was home... but he left this morning. I am a mess. Did you have a rough time at the airport? Does it get better? There are so many questions I have.

Cody is 21 and also an AO. He was told he would be ship's company while in Pensacola but got a call from his sponsor this week who told him he was G1, which meant he would be on the flight deck. Does any of that make sense to you? :-) When he found out he was going to Japan, he was OK with it... but then, he got a girlfriend and everything changed. She's stationed in Virginia and the love connection is really going to be tested.

Is your son deployed now? I hear the ship is out and will be back in soon... I hate this not knowing stuff! Aren't we mothers supposed to have all the answers?!?! :-)

Well, I am heading down to his room now... not sure if I want to leave it as is for few days or just get it cleaned up now! Three + years... this is going to be a long ride. I'm so glad to have found you, Michelle. I really look forward to sharing this journey together.
