Good morning Mastercheif.
I was wondering if you could tell me if there is truch to this?
There are three Navy terms that describe a Sailor enlisted in the Navy - rate, rating, and pay grade. The three are often confused and misused. Here's a simple tutorial on the differences between Navy rank, rate, rating, and pay grade.

First of all, only Navy officers have rank. For enlisted personnel, the term is rate. Rate indicates the military authority of an individual within the Navy. In other words, rate tells you who bosses whom. Rating, on the other hand, is the job the Sailor does. Pay Grade is the letter and number code that tells Uncle Sam's accountant how much base pay to give a Sailor.

So, in a nutshell:

RATE is who bosses the Sailor, and whom the Sailor can boss.
RATING is the job a Sailor has.
PAY GRADE is the base pay of a Sailor.
Thanks so much for any help you have.

I believe we were told that it was the eroinius information. He stated that he had ADHD and took retalin for a year. He did not. I know it is up to the Navy to let him back in. We will be praying he does.

My son had on his papers something to do with eronious information (which this has to do with ADHD and taking ritalin which that was a mistake because my brother took it not him). The RE code was and 8.

I was told to ask you how my son (20 yrs old) can get back in the Navy. The problem is when he was at bootcamp he had gotten so homesick that he gave them some mis information about himself that was not true. A family member told him how he could get out. When he was sent to the doctor they had asked him if he wanted to hurt himself in any way. He was told by a family member that he could tell them anything and he could get out. We sent in a form the the correctional department (can't remember the name of the place) to get all of this corrected. My son want's to get back in but I know we have to fix a few things. I need to know how long does the process take.

Okay is technician and dental hygienist considered the same in the Navy, or is it two differ things like here. He worked in a dental office before and he wanted to be hygienist working with a Orthodontics putting braces on children. He was working with a dentist in the Navy for awhile and his job got changed. He waiting to start school, and now is a hospital corpsman. He gets bored easy and wants to start school already. We are praying for him to hang in there and be patience. What does FMTB means? Thanks for all the info I missed not being there for him as him grows into a man.

Chief, it is always so refreshing to speak (chat) with former/retired service members who actually recall what it was like to be 'human'. Your words as the parent of a sailor (in spite of your naval career) are so surreal. I wish you and your son much happiness as you both venture your son's career.

My son lives his USN life and I respect his privacy and loyalty to the USN, and I promised him I would not live my life vicariously through his (although I told him he wasn't going to be able to stop 'ole Mom from being a Mom who supports our service members and their families... LOL - he worries that I am becoming obsessed with my support endeavors.)

I was recently reading one of MCPON's notes on FB, and it is understandable how and why he owns his title. His words and writings clearly resonate that he has never forgetten what it is like to be human. He is a wonderful role model, in my humble opinion, and all of our sailors are blessed to have leadership by someone with these character traits. Sure sets my 'ole Navy Mom heart at peace. I am almost certain that many of those sailors who served under your leadership resonate my thoughts. Kerry is blessed to have the USN leadership and you, Dad, as his role models. Blue Skies!
