I was a single mom until Matt was 18.We are very close. I am sad that he will not be home for the holidays. While I miss him more than words can say I remind myself that he is happy and he is following his dream. But more importantly I remind myself…

Glad I'm not the only mom who cries at the sight of a sailor. Do they understand or do they we think we are crazy old ladies? I have to remember to tell Matt to respond to these moms with a hug, just like he would give me. Boy do I miss his hugs! Th…

Has anybody heard from their boy? I have not heard anything since right before Thanksgiving. Matt's girlfriend said when he last e-miled her that they would be "out of contact" for awhile. It sure is bringing down the Christmas spirit.

My son is also deployed. While this is his first deployment, for past christmas's and birthdays we sent money to his Credit union account. It has been easy. We called his credit union and they instructed us to send a check payable to his account and…

Me too, even some tears. He's been in Hawaii and that's so far away from home why does it feel worse now? I took my mom to lunch today and then my parents took me to see Bainbridge, well what's left of it. ( just a tiny museum ) That's where my Dad…

Hi mom's, I found a poem and I made a bunch of changes to fit us. The navy mom’s mooring line We are connected, my sailor and I, by an invisible mooring line, not seen by the eye. It’s not like the line that connects us ‘till birth. This line can…

my son called last night to say good-by and to not worry. I will miss him but I am excited for him to have this adventure. I have told him since boot camp. "Every morning look at every day as a challenge and an adventure and at the end of the day lo…

moms if you want to cry and feel good about it. listen to the song on my page. "Somewhere out there" I'd send it to my son but I think he would think I was over reacting to the whole situation, men.

I guess our boys don't understand how a mommy feels. Matt does not have international calling and says he plans to have his phone turned off. You would think that the phone companies would give this to our service people as a gift for their service.…

Hi Nan, yes I have heard from Aaron a few times lately. I can't believe the time is getting close for the guys to leave. I have not heard of the extended stay. That is a little to long for me. I really wish I could see Aaron before he leaves, but.....

I just went to San Diego for a long weekend to see my daughter. We had a fun weekend together. It was just the girls, shopping, lunch sleeping in. I think she will be home for Christmas. At least I will have one of them.

At least we can cry on each others shoulders in the months to come.
On a happier note, Aaron got cleared medically on his ear. So he is hoping to get back to dive school when they get back.

Nan, the boys are back in town. I just got off the phone with Aaron. So you should be getting a call soon. Sounds like it was a uneventful underway......which is good.

Hi Nan, I have gotten a few e-mails from Aaron, not much going on with them I guess. I think they may be back next sometime nest week. I can't wait to hear his voice. I don't know how I can go 6 months without that.

How have you been doing? Anymore reenactments?

I bet you are starting to get some fall color now. This time of year I really miss back east weather.

Hello! My daughter-in-law Michelle is the FRG President of the USS Columbia and she has asked me to give her email addy to the members of the USS Columbia group. She and other ladies are planning some things for the upcoming deployment and hope to get families involved. They're still working out the details and will fill everyone in once they get things ironed out. She's asked that everyone email her so that she has a way to contact you and give you specific details. I know they're working on a brown bag filled with things they may need and give it to them half way through the deployment. The wives are putting a personal item in the bag for their sailor (it makes the bags more personal). They want to make sure the single sailors have something from their family too. :)
I guess they (Navy) ship the brown bag to the port that is the half way mark during deployment.
I know Michelle is looking forward to hearing from the Mom's!
Thanks,
Kim

I don't see a place to send messages. I I would like to send you Michelle's email privately. I'll try adding you as a friend. This way I can message you with the email addy.

My daughter has been out since Jan. We were all set to go to Hawaii next week to meet her and go on the tiger cruise with her back to San Diego. Now Tara will be in Pearl Harbor and Aaron is underway. I believe they are to return next week sometime. In time to watch his sister pull away.:(
So I'm sure Matt will be back in plenty of time to be home.
I will be flying back to Ca tomorrow.

Thats cool that they are on facebook. Aaron called me today, I guess they are heading out for a few weeks soon. Aaron is a little disappointed that he is leaving just as his sister is pulling in from her deployment and will be in Pearl Harbor for about week. Also this week I found out that the Tiger Cruise is cancelled. We are very sad, but we will still drive down to San Diego for homecoming.
I will be leaving NJ next Wed.
Hope all is good with you.

Nan, I am so glad to hear that Matt is coming home. I know you are going to have a great time together. Tell him the crazy lady that took his picture said Hi!
I have been to Lancaster a few times in my life. It is really a nice area. My brother and sister in-law live there. But I have never been to their house. They live on Cherry St. I believe.
The way things seem to be going I really don't think I will be able to get there, but like I said I know I will be back most likely in the fall. So if this time doesn't work out I will make it a point the next time for sure.

Nan, I'm in the northern part of Jersey near Morristown. I would love to meet for lunch, but I don't know if I can get away. I will be the only one with my mom and Aunt next week. My brother will be back next weekend. So that may be a possibility. Where are you located?
I really think that I will be around NJ a few more times in the near future. So if this doesn't work out I know there will be another time.
Let me know what you think.
I'm still hoping that matt can get home for you.
Have a great July 4th.
