I am running days behind but am trying to get to all new members... so will try to catch up tonight.
Welcome to Navy 4 Moms, this is an exciting website and very informative... We would like to invite you to the Blue Candle Lighting event that occurs in your home anytime you wish to light a candle for your recruit sailor or the military in general. This is done to honor their service during the holidays, birthdays, special events or if you just want to. The Home for the Holidays/Blue Candle Moms also ask you join us in this group. This event and group has no special connections to "any one group" We are all Navy Moms, Wives, and we became Blue Candle Moms.... this included everyone on this website. Please come join us and share your stories and your lightings and your holidays with your child...this was done because some moms were not having their sailors home, and we are support group that can share feelings and fears. Annouce your child is coming home or the despair of knowing on certain holidays it is your sailor we light the candles for. To honor them for the service in the past present and future. To honor those that gave the Ultimate Sacrifice for our freedom. We celebrate the freedom to be Blue Candle Moms and the freedom to light our candles anytime we choose. Please think about our group and the Event and when responding tell where you lit your candle, and the reasons for your paticular lighting. the event will continue and once you rsvp come in anytime and update your lightings

Hi Nanci! I'mglad you told me about the capital letters! I need to go back and change my latest post, but don't think I can...Kevin's story is so similar to your son's, at least at the beginning... He scored high on the ASVAB and his recruiter told him that, even though he has never been good in math, he needed to go into Nukes. In the meantime, he decided that he didn't want to be a Nuke, but never really talked to his recruiter about it... or if he did and the recruiter lied to him... I heard that for each Nuke they enroll, they get credit 3 other recruits. Hmmmm... sounds fishy to me! Eventually, the recruiter (who just happened to be unavailable for the weeks appraoching BC) finally met with Kevin and insisted that he could change out of Nukes while in BC. In Kevin's form letter, that I just received, he said he's stuck in Nukes. I just don't think that they're going to let him go through Nuclear School with his math history! So maybe he'll end up at North Island too! :)
So your son is in San Diego??? I'm in North San Diego County! I was a zookeeper at the SD Zoo and Wild Animal Park for 24 years. The Zoo was where I got my nickname. Maybe we'll meet one of these days, if you come visit Steve. That would be fun! Tell Steve that if he wants my number, I would be happy to give it to him. What happened to Steve gives me hope for Kevin. Well, let's definitely keep in touch!... Maybe when Kevin graduates (if he comes home) he and Steve can get together. Have a great week! - Denise

Dear Nanci,
How wonderful, a baby, when is the due date? God bless.
I love hearing news like that.

I have heard that San Diago is beautiful. That's great that Steve enjoys he's job. Nothing worse than going into a job you odn't like!! UGH!

My daughter Kim just started on the USS Normandy, stationed in Virginia. The ship is dry docked for a year. So the Sailors are doing odd jobs for now.
Kim was trained to read the radar. I pray she gets a refresher course before the ship sails out!! Kim said she already forgot what she was trained for.

Kim was home for two weeks and left before Thanksgiving. So I cooked the whole dinner for her and again for Thanksgiving. I don't want to see another turkey for another year!! HAHA!!

I hope to hear from you again.
Take care and God bless.

You have all your boys listed.
Where is he stationed?

I hope to hear from you again.
Take care and God bless.

Hi Nancy, Welcome Aboard!

Come join us over in Colorado Moms also. It is an amazing group of moms and dads. We just had our first get together on Sunday and had a blast. We are working on arranging area get togethers for Feb or Mar so folks can group up near others. Lots to do around the N4M site and like Karen said there are groups for everything out here.

Hi Nancy! Welcome to the boards! I just joined recently and I love it here. I replied to you on the boards, but thought I'd write you here. Kevin apparently is stuck in Nukes for now, but I'll continue to hope that he can change jobs later... We'll see... I'd love to hear what happened when your son changed jobs. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Any ideas, suggestions, warnings? Thanks! - Denise
