So about the picture. If you go to Linda Hurfords page: http://www.navyformoms.com/profile/LindaHurford, scroll down until you find a picture of Ryan in the newspaper, then scoll down a little further and you'll find that same picture as a photo. Maybe if you can get him better centered and get his feel in (LOL). That is a fabulous picture for the newspaper if you need it and also for family albums. Below that you'll see my Jan and Ryan - they are good friends, having graduated from Navy BC then going on to the Guard together, along with Ryan C. Yes the flags are obvious. Also something you'll really appreciate is that they new guards have to stand still for some time after the ceremony so friends and family can take pictures of them. Don't be shy - do what I did and walk right into the group and take close-ups (after people get their group shots, of course). That was so wonderful that they had them stand still for us to do that before breaking it all up and going on to the refreshments.
If you want, take a look at my guard's graduation album here: http://www.navyformoms.com/photo/albums/ceremonial-guardnov-21-2008
Just be careful, because if you are like me, I had to stop myself from crying when the graduates actually marched out from that side door. I just wanted to cry for joy but couldn't cause I had to take pictures. Jan's Dad has been deceased for a long time so these kinds of events always hit me hard, though I don't ever let on.
Mom is still on the mend. She had the pacemaker put in on 7- 8 and left the hospital on the 16 but then was readmitted on the 17th. She has been in pretty much since then. She went to a cardiac rehab facility for weeks and is now staying at Brighton Gardens (assisted living) for a few weeks till we can decide if she can live alone. My hubby lost his job (after 28 years) and we are not sure that we will be staying in this area so mnoving in with us is not an option. My sisters (all nurses) are probablly going to have her move in with them. One is in New York (summer home for mom) and the other is in Charleston SC (winter home for mom) We should know more within a week or so. I know she wants to go back to her home. run out of space,
Congratulations for Nate making it through! It can be so hard on them, especially with the sun sensitivity you told me that he has, and of course the bugs. I shudder to think I put up with that all through my childhood right there near DC.
Also a big congratulations to your other son Benjamin. What a talented family you have!
I just wanted to make a quick comment about the train and getting to the base for the graduation. If I were you, I'd opt for the car. I hope I'm not wrong in thinking the traffic won't be so bad at that time of day heading into DC, but I'm not sure. Anyway, it would probably be easier. Will you be able to be dropped off to be there and save seats? It is worth it to get in the front row if you can. And be sure to get Nates picture between the flags as soon as they let them fall out. I missed doing that and still regret it.
Talk to you soon. Carole
Blake's current rate is ABH. He will end up in P-Cola for A school. It has been a heck of a year with him graduating and leaving so soon afterward. He was a Depper though for just over a year before he left, so we too had time to prepare. He went from being a baby to me though to leaving to serve our country. I'm sure a lot of moms go thru what we did, it's really hard though. We are so so proud of him!
Congrats to your son! It sounds like he is doing very well. :) Blake certainly loves the Lord too, very much. I know whatever it is his job ends up being, he will be very proud and will put God first in all that he does.
Glad to have you as a friend. I will definately have questions..so get ready for me to pick your brain!
Talk with you soon.

I'll get back to you on the other stuff...
Hey Lady - gotta watch that fast food! :-).

They are worn with Formal Dress, Dinner Dress, Full Dress, and Service Dress uniforms, and the overcoat and all-weather coat during official ceremonies, occasions requiring special honors, social functions (as directed), all social functions where a formal invitation has been extended, and at all times by aides to foreign representatives.
The Service Aiguillette is worn during less formal occasions.
The Aide to the President, Aide to the Vice President, aides at the White House, and officers designated as aides to foreign heads of state wear aiguillettes on the right shoulder; all others on the left shoulder.
