I am Jean and my son Austin has been at the Sub base since August 08 and is to graduate sometime in late June of 09.

This is wonderful support group

Hi Nettie! It was great "meeting" you! I know we couldn't talk much at graduation, but I was glad to lay eyes on you atleast! :) I hope all is well with you and yours. I'm just glad to hear that you are fine and that Charles is ok too. Your feelings about the whole weekend are understandable. I just can't wait to spend the whole weekend with Ryan. At the same time, I just want to meet some of the gals who have been my source of strength through these last weeks. Some people are stopping by to just say hello, some will stay longer, some won't come at all. It is up to each person's individual feelings. Right now we have 8 ladies coming, most with their family members, some by themselves or with their husbands. I am attending with Melissa, Ryan's girlfriend, since my husband will be picking up my other son from the airport at 7:15 that evening. He has to work all day on Thursday so he is flying it last minute. I am bringing a sheet cake to celebrate and it will be informal and bittersweet I'm sure. If you decide to come, that would be great. When you get to Chicago, here is my cell phone in case you want to call someone from the group: 845-325-4922. If I don't see you, have an absolute wonderful time and enjoy every second with your son.

Hi Nettie! I am so glad you got your call from Charles. Wasn't it the greatest thing in the world? Ryan called me first and then saved 7 minutes for his girlfriend and the end, so I know how you feel. Have you made your plans for the graduation yet? If you have, we are all posting our accomodations on a discussion blog and we will have a master listing as it gets closer to the actual date. If you wish to add your plans the blog discussion is in our group 917, division 6 page right underneath the counter that was added. Now everyday when we check the group site we get to see how close we are to see our kids again! I am from NY and my husband and I are driving out. Ryan's girlfriend and my older son are both making their own plans to fly out since they have work and school obligations. I had to get a suite to accomodate us. I am so excited. I see you live in Florida. I just love it there. I just came back from a 6 days trip to Ft. Lauderdale. It was wonderful. Talk to you soon. Cathy

Hi Nettie! Welcome! This is a wonderful website and has been my life line through this process. I have a daughter named Ashley, too, and I also live pretty close to Patty. I heard from my daughter for the second time yesterday but there is definitely a lag in the mailing process for some reason. She told me yesterday that she had caught the BC crud which I guess is a bad cold that is going around the group. I hope it doesn't set her too far back. Well I best get back to work but I just wanted to take a moment to tell you how glad I am to have 1 more Mom from DIV 917!!!!

Hi Nettie! I just read your post on Cathy's website! My daughter Ashley is with your Charles on Ship 06/Div. 917! We started our own little group for families who have sailors on ship 06/917 division. You should come over there and join us! We have found 6 moms so far, and our kids messages and letters we are all sharing! I've found such great comfort talking to you other moms during this period, and wanted to make sure I said HI and I hope you come join us! Here is the link:
