About me:
We have a son who graduated from boot camp in November. We are very proud of him and his decision.
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
It can be a good choice for your son or daughter. When we found out our son was interested in the Navy we were less than thrilled. I'm a researcher so I started looking into it and talking to others and gradually started to come around to the idea that it could be a really good choice for my son. I think the jury is still out until boot camp is over, but we are hopeful that this is going to work out great!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Dear Barbara,

I am glad the surgery went well. I am sure the swelling is not pleasant. Hopefully you are feeling well soon. I have major issues with anthesia so I can relate to your issues. I choose to go without whenever possible because it makes me so sick.

After a long day of travel we picked my son up from the airport last night around midnight. He was lucky to get home. I know many did not. He is really excited to go visit friends today.

There is a huge storm heading up the eastern board. Hopefully it peters our before it gets to you. Lots of Christmas parties to get to this weekend. Should be fun. Need to make a few dishes to take to parties. I want to get some cards written out and bake some cookies too.

Well get better soon. That baby will be here before you know it and will need a healthy grandma!

Dear Kim,
I feel like I was hit by a truck and it reversed as well! HAAH! I'm not in pain, thank God. I'm just so achy, and my face is swollen and black and blue.

The surgery went well, but I couldn't wake up from the anastesia, then when I did, I had extreme dizziness. I do have everyday vertigo with my Meniere's Disease, but this was real bad. So I had to stay the night.

I'm not really up to writting, I just wanted to update you.
Thank you for your prayers.
Take care and God bless,
Love,
Barbara

I pray Aunt Darlene is on her good behavior when we get there. Kim doesn't want her there, because of her attitude. She told Kim the baby has brain damage and that Kim's life is over, all real sweet things she told her. Kim was six months pregnant when she found out, and she was drinking before that,

The boyfriend went home to see his mother. He'll be back the day we come in, Dec 28. Kim was telling me last night, that she is to take the test for Petty Officer, in March. She also wants to re-take the ASVAB test for a higher score. SHe wants to change her job. I told her to talk to the counselor if the tests can be at least a month apart, so that she can study.

Now in March, her ship deploys for 9 months. All her friends and the boyfriend are on that ship. I wrote Kim, I can come back down and care for the baby , so that she can study for those two tests.

Let me get going. Thank you so very much for your prayers.
Take care and stay warm,
Love,
Barbara

Dear Kim,
I'm a little nervous. Oh yeah, I'll be knocked out for this! HAHA! It's 3 hour operation, which I am surprised it's that long.

What gets me, the man in charge of the surgery scheduling, he gave me the requinsition paper on what blood work that had to be done. The other day he called Doug and asked if I had the two vaccines. Fortuantly, I knew about this, from writting to other people who had the surgery already, on the Cochlear Communtiy. In the meantime, if I didn't know, that would cost me more money going back for the two vaccines.

Now the other day, he called Doug again if I had the MRI and cat scan. This was not on the paper. Now this guy said to Doug the test can be done before the surgery. I hope so. This surgery can not be cancelled. I have to have it done before the New Year.

I was hoping to buy the winter snow suit to take the baby home in. They didn't have any for boys. I want to go to one more store, plus get the white clothe diapers for the spit up.

I pray everyday that Kim's maternal instint comes out when the baby is here. She really has no idea of caring for a baby. I was the same way, I had no one to show me, I was on my own when my kids were born.
I'll meet you on page 2

Dear Kim,
Every day, when I come on here and see the expected due date countdown, I get all excited. The count is down to 18 more days. I just pray my little guy waits for me.

My surgery is Thursday. I'm a little nervous. Do you know Doug wanted to take the bus, but 3 buses back home after I have the surgery. Is he for real.! I don't mind going down there by bus, but not after having a 3 hours surgery, I don't think so. I told him I want a taxi.

What gets me about Darlene's car, it's always over heating, and getting repaired. Like you said, the money spent could have been for a nice vocation. Darlene gets stranded on highways all the time. Her college is almost an hour away.

Oh I haven't made cookies in years. Today Darlene dressed as Frosty the Snowman for a Christmas children's brunch. She came home with left over cookies. They were home baked and delicious! HAHHA!

You know, I never thought of that, a menu! HAHA! No matter what I cook, Doug is such a pain in the butt, he doesn't want to eat. I'm not a bad cook at all, he just doesn't want what I cooked. SO I always have left overs.

Darlene finally took me to a store for baby shopping. I got a few things. I still want to go to the store Kids World, it has more.

I've been writting to Kim everyday. We catch one another on the instant message. Now she's getting a little panicky. SHe's been going to baby classes, and it hit her how close she is to her due date. Boy, there's a lot she doesn't know. I'm so grateful to God for blessing me with a grandchild, and that I'm here for Kim. She really has no clue what she's in for! HAAH! The questions she's asking me, are too much, she really has no idea what's in store for her, caring for the baby.

No, we did have any snow yet. I don't mind maybe 3 inch's, but that's it. How's your roads?

Let me get going Stay well and warm.
Take care and God bless,
Love,
Barbara

Dear Kim,
I was wondering how you made out with the snow. That's alot 14 inch's. I'm surprised the highway was still icy. Here, the plow trucks start after an inch or two, followed by the salt.
I remember how scary that is, skidding on ice. Just be extra careful, and watch out for the other cars. These idiots still drive fast as if the road was dry. They're crazy here.

What got stuck, your window? Oh please, Darlene's car just cost $1,400 this week, it has a new engine, starter, and I don't know what else. Doug just spent that in August on her car. I just pray this car gets us to Virginia and back home again. It's always over heating, or not starting.

I always hated Christmas shopping. Then the crowded stores. Well, this year, our Christmas will be when I return back from Virgingia. We're trying to start Kim off with the baby, her and the boyfriend have been buying for the new apartment.

You can't go wrong with the gift certficates. Between stores like Modells and Best Buy,
Let the person get what they really want. Make life easy for yourself! HAHAH!

Years ago, when my kids were in costume contests, they always won either 1,2, or 3 prize. They received gift certificate to Toys R Us. They picked what they wanted, and sometimes I just paid the difference. It was great.

I went out to dinner tonigth. Nothing fancy, this bar and grill we like. Doug ordered two lobster tails for me special, it's not on the menu. Next week is my birthday, but after the surgery, who knows how I'm going to feel. SO we went tonight.

Let me get going. Careful driving.
Take care and God bless.
Love,
Barbara

Dear Kim,
I hope the snow doesn't get as deep as expected. I'm the same way, as long as my kids and husband are home, I'm okay. Our fear is a Noreaster, I live two blocks for the beach. The last one we had destroyed houses.

My son makes good money shoveling, too bad he never shovels my four stairs.! HAHA! I'm watching the weather channel now, it's suppose to miss us, just heavy rain is expected. I don't know if the Christmas tree lighting will been post poned. Darlene is going to play Frosty the Snowman. I did it for years and passed it down to her.

Gift certificates are a good gift. One time my daughters gave me a gift certicate to JC Penney's my favortie store. I just had to put a few dollars to make the difference on what I bought. It was great. Now, all I can give is money, I have no way of getting to any stores. I no longer drive, and it takes too many buses to get to the stores. I'm at a point, I am scared of being by myself outside. I have that vertigo everyday.

I never saw the Nutcracker. Enjoy it. .

Knowing Kim, she'll bring the back here in the Spring, maybe Easter. She has even surprised us, showing up. I dread that 7 hour car ride. By the time she brings the baby here, he'll be so much fun to play with, and from the surgery I'm having, by then I should be able to hear him, babble and laugh.! HAHA! I melt everytime I look at those images! HAHA!

You want to laugh, Darlene and her girlfriend put on a VHS tape, I looked up and there was a picutre of a baby in the 3D image. I thought Kim sent us something and I didn't know about ! HAAH! No, it was the TV show they taped, Private Practice, it's a medical show! HAHA! We all had a good laugh! HAHA!

That's about it for the moment. Your up to 6 inch's already. You poor thing. I like snow, but no more that 3 inch's. I don't miss driving in it, that's for sure!
Take care and God bless,
Love,
Barbara

Dear Kim.
Welcome back home, I missed you. So your daughter came in fourth, I hope she doesn't feel bad about that. I know the competition is feirce. Does she dance solo or with a "compnay' from her dance studio?

I'm glad you enjoyed the trip. I haven't done anything. I told everyone that this holiday birth was unexpected, so everyone has to wait for their gifts when I come back home. I haven't bought anything for the baby yet. I haven't been able to get a ride to the stores. My car died, so there's only Darlene's and she works and goes to school.
I"m just giving money though, I never have a ride to any stores.

The weather channel has been predicting an el nino winter. I dread that. I just pray the roads are clear and dry when we drive Kim to the hospital.

I hope the roads aren't too bad for your driving. Here, it can be a blizzard, and the Public Schools will remain opened. The private and Cathloic schools close.

I want to buy the baby the clothes and outer wear, I think it was called a bunting. I went on line to stores, but couldn't find it. I need to be in the store. There's no way I can travel to the stores with out a car. I miss driving.

Kim wrote me before, she might have a baby shower on Dec 29. I asked why on a Tuesday. Her friends from the ship will be back. SO that would be nice, I'll be there for it. We have plans for a surprise party when she comes back home.

Let me get going. Stay well and warm.
Take care and God bless,
Love,
Barbara

Dear Kim,
That's what I'm hoping for , the boyfriend helping her out like he promised. I know this week the ship is getting inspected, so the boyfriend has been living on the ship and probably doing 15 hour shifts like that last time. I keep reminding Kim about having the joint account set up, for when he's out to sea.

Kim bought a used sofa bed, so she'll sleep on that until she can afford an actual bed. I did that too when I first started out on my own. Fo me, I'm buying a blow up mattress, and I'll keep that with her.

You're going to need a vocation after this weekend! HAHAH! I wish your daughter the best in her competition. I used to go bowling. Never was good with it, but I enjoyed going. I hope your sons do well with their teams.

People I know with large families tell me how lucky I am. I feel bad for my kids, no Aunts or Uncles, and no counsins. The kids across the street have 10 counsins. WHen they were younger, the counsins were there every single day of the week, and wouldn't play with my kids, The neighbors kids would be with mine all day, until the counsins arrived. My kids were told to go home. I have a step sister, but we're no close. We write e-mails every now and then. Even my kids said they hated visiting, they felt they didn't belong.

I'll let you get going. My prayers are with you for traveling. I wish your daughter the best. Let me know how she made out.
Take care and God bless,
Love,
Barbara
