Hi Patricia! My son is an Electricians Mate. He is a Nuke. He has been in Guam for about 3 weeks. I did join USS Buffalo moms and Guam moms and Sub moms!! But,I have been so busy the last few weeks I have barely been on the sites. I spoke with my son tonight and he said he has not met your son, but he would look out for him. The first thing he said was what's his last name? LOL! I don't think they even know each others first names! I reminded him we don't do last names on here. I hope they do get to meet. He is bunking alone in a big baracks for now, which would be really lonely to me, but he said it is okay and only temporary. He would really like to get a place in town with a roommate or two. Do you know if Navy families have available lodging on base to rent? We are planning a trip in the distant future and want to consider all of the exhorbitant costs! I would appreciate very much any information or insight you could share with me. Thanks so much for writing! Take care...Sharon

George is attached to the USS Frank Cable. No the Red Cross can't help as it is not considered life or death. The Navy Relief Society can't help because his parents arent navy nor are they dependents of Georges. I haven't found a mom there in Guam to help yet, but a nice young man said that he would pop in to see george on Weds or Thurs.
Just waiting and praying!!

Patricia,
He was in a motorcycle accident. Due to severe blood loss they had to take his right leg. No family there so was looking for possibly a mom or wife there that could lend some support. His parents are trying to coordinate with CMC and Drs. to determine how to get there or if they will be sending him back stateside. He is stable for now but will need further surgeries....UGH!!

Sorry, about that! My name is Holly.
Yes, it was a little tough at first, but it was the best thing he ever did. We had a rough few years in high school. He moved to IN to live with his dad for a year and a half of it, so he had been away from home even before he left for the Navy. He graduated (barely!) , went away for "senior trip" to Panama City Fl, came back and said to me "I can't live that way, Mom." The next day he saw the Navy recruiter and a month later left for boot camp. I really think it saved his life, the decision to join the Navy, I mean. We talked about that when he was home on leave earlier this month and he totally agrees. Friends of his from school, even guys who also spent time in the Navy or other branches, came home and are not doing well. A lot of alcohol and drug problems.
Thankfully, he got away from here long enough to outgrow all that.
I am looking for good neighborhoods near Great Lakes for him to buy a house when he gets there. Know anyone in the area?

Hey, Pat, thanks for the welcome. I am in Delhi/Bridgetown too. My son is a 2000 grad of OHHS. Almost 9yrs Navy now. He's been everywhere, almost. Soon to be back at Great Lakes for 3+ yrs. Finally, close to home again!
