Hi Patty......when I don't hear from my own son on the Lincoln, I come here to see if Andrew has written. It's nice to have a back up!!! We really get a kick out of his humor and his kindness to write emails for us Mom's too. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Patty I'm so glad your are on here, you are really a great person. I'm feeling better about Greg I come to realize it's going to be sad whenever he leaves as it is for all of us Mom's when our kids leave us. He does call everyday sometimes twice so it's been good, he is happy with his job.

I think I must have missed those 2 ....because it has been awhile since I saw something from Andrew..... I will go and look for those 2. He is so special, to many of us i see. He allows us to feel what are kids will be going threw and speaking for myself only. What he says eases my mind, because it really doesn't sound that bad....nothing you cant just deal with. Please tell him that next time you get to talk, email him. Let him know just how helpful he is here :)
God job Momma , you raised a fine young man :)

Patty, coming out of the Navy is an adjustment - my husband served 10 years before going civilian. Does he have plans made? Our son is talking "career" but since he has not completed A school as of yet - he might be talking too soon!!!
Nick is doing fine, no complaints but he never was a complainer - he's just anxious for his real classes to get underway. Because he is an FC, he will be spending most of his time on a ship and is hoping to be stationed in Japan at some point.

Profile Information

About me:
I am a married mother of 2 boys, 1 step-daughter and 1 step-son, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law and 3 beautiful grandchildren. We live in Indiana.
My son Andrew was in the Navy from June 2004-Oct 2008. He is currently lving in Lemoore, CA but will be moving soon to Long Island, NY with his wife Amy who is still in the Navy. His final duty prior to leaving the Navy was aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln.
After BC, Andrew went to Meridian, Missippi for A school, then to his first command as Yeoman in Chinhae, South Korea. He truly enjoyed the base there. It was a small Navy base and he got to know everyone very well. He made some great friends that he still keeps in close contact with. His original orders were for one year there, but after the first year, he opted to stay on another year.
It was difficult to miss our first Christmas with him, especially thinking about him being so far away in another country, but the base was very good about making sure the sailors were taken care of for the holidays.
After his 2 years in Korea, he was stationed in Lemoore, CA. A welcome change by then for him. He was so excited that the base had a McDonald's and Pizza Hut - things he hadn't had in 2 years! :-)
He met his future wife Amy in Lemoore. They were married in Nov 2008.
I am here to support or represent my:
Andrew
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Retired from the service
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Said “No way!”
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

This is a photo of Andrew and his fellow sailors taken in January during the final training mission on the USS Abraham Lincoln.

This is a picture of my father and my son. Andrew is proud to be following in his grandfather's footsteps.

Andrew's life after the Navy

Hi All,

For all of you who have followed Andrew's posts throughout his career, I though I would update you all on what's happening in his life now.

He finished his enlistment in October, and much to my surprise, did not re-enlist. He and Amy got married in November in California but plan to come home to Indiana in July for a proper ceremony/reception. They are very happy and loving life.

Amy re-enlisted this week and they are looking forward to her next duty station in New York in February.… Continue

Andrew's back in the USA!

I just heard from Andrew as we was getting off the plane and was waiting to go through customs. He's totally exhausted and he still has another day of travel to go! After flying off the deck of the ship on Wednesday, he was flown to Papua, New Guinea. From there he took an air taxi to Bahrain where he boarded a Military Carrier plane bound for the US. They stopped briefly for refueling in Greece, Italy and Portugal before finally arriving 25 hours later in Virginia. He still has to travel back t… Continue

Put up the "Welcome Home" banner! (An email from Andrew)

What's going on everyone!

Okay, I know I just sent out an update about two days ago saying that I didn't have much time left and that I would be home soon. I didn't know how true that was until this morning when my Chief, yes the same Chief I got into an argument with, came in. Here's the story:

About 0100 in the morning my Admin Officer (AO) just got done flying and was in the office talking to us. The topic of my transfer came up and I told him about mid-September is when they were talking a… Continue

So close for being so far away! (an email from Andrew)

What's going on everyone?!
I know that it has been a while since I last wrote and not too much has gone on, but some key things have happened that should be interesting for you.
For starters, the end of this cruise is almost done for me! I can't give you a date on when I will be back, but will say it's about a month away. Amy on the other hand has less time than me! And it couldn't come sooner for her. Work has been getting to her since day one and now she gets to go home get a house set up for… Continue

Sending out the Update (an email from Andrew)

Whats going on Everyone!

Just sending out an update to everyone. It is official, I have less than two months left on this boat and lucky Amy only has a little over a month left. I can't give the exact dates out, but if any of you know my mother's birthday, I fly back 11 days before that. That's all I can say on that. But we are going to be busy once we get back. She has to set up the barracks, and I have to get everything ready for my separation! My last day in the Navy I plan on walking over t… Continue
