Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
That my daughter is growing up and that I cannot protect her anymore but that I need to turn her over to God. After all I have learned about the Navy, I believe that they will help enforce the lessons that we have worked hard at teaching her throughout her life and will get her started on a successful adult life.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Ahoy Mateys! Boot camp is OVER! We just got back from one of the most exciting weekends I've ever had. Where do I begin?

Weds. nite before PIR I was up until about 3:30 AM still trying to pack and get ready for the trip - plus I was way too excited to sleep. Thursday morning our flight… Continue

Friday again - time for an update!

Yesterday's letter from boot camp was the best one yet! There are now only 3 weeks left to go until PIR and FINALLY I am getting some answers to the burning questions I've had swimming around in my brain. I couldn't be happier with how well Jillian appears to be managing boot camp. Are y… Continue

hello Patty. I got busy and didn't post the list, plus . I FINALLY heard from the air show contact, he was no help at all. NONE and we are 8 weeks out and hes telling me that like I don't know.
Plus I can never get the Navy for moms people to get back to me in a timely fashion mostly because there is no real contact person. Its all very very vague. They want you to do a booth, but give zero guidance, and no contacts, it's basically , " Sure, Go ahead... Byenow". LMAO.
anyway, you can get a list right of the site, go to NAS Oceana site and click on MWR and look around. The site is not as good as some, but not as bad as others.
THe beach is about 3 mi from the base, however, the traffic is always awful there, I can't even imagine how bad it's going to be those days.So yes, I would say an hour might not be out of the question.
My scanner is broken, and the list is pretty long... I should see if I can copy paste it to the oceana page I guess. sorry for the delay, I don't know what else I can do?? so I sit and wait for answers to my e-mail .

Hi Patty,
I spoke with Bobby when he was home. His friends name is Candance. He has not spoken to her in a while because of his hours and all the training he has been doing. I don't know her mother, so I don't know if she is a member of Navy for Mom's or not. I'm sorry that I don't have anymore informtion to give you.

Hi Patty, I forget what Bobby's friends name is. Bobby is out training and will not be in port until sometime this weekend. I can ask him if he is still in contract with his buddy. Will let you know once I get to speak to my son.

Wow, only 6 hours away, I'm so jealous. The closest I've been to either of my sons while in the Navy is 16 hours. My younger son is out now and he is still 4+ hours away. Darn kids, what are ya gonna do with em! Like I said, my son and I will be more than happy to answer any questions either of you have.

Hi Patty, I've included your questions with my answers because when I go from my page to someone elses I can never remember what the question was: When your son was aboard ship for a month, did they just float around in the ocean while the pilots did their training or did they actually sail anywhere to an actual place? They can't just float they have to be moving but they didn't go anywhere and have port calls.
And how long was your son in that training squadron before they put him in a different squadron? 2 years! That's standard.
My daughter is pretty dissappointed because she really wants to travel and this assignment sounds like she will never get that opportunity. She is also afraid it will be a 2-3 year assignment and she is only planning on being in for 4 years - she'll already have 10 months of that 4 years completed before she gets there and then add another 2-3 years and that doesn't leave much time left for traveling in another assignment.
The standard for deployment is 6 months out 18 months in even though my son has gone 4 times in 4 years because of the surges so tell her she's only missed one cruise in her first 2 years. She'll be getting her feet wet and getting to know the boat and everything before she deploys which is much easier. Some of these sailors graduate A school and get sent straight to a deployed boat, that's tough.
The other thing she is worried about is that she won't have the same opportunities for advancement, earning medals, etc.
She won't miss out on anything!

Hi Patty, haven't talked with you in a while so I thought I'd say hello. We are enjoying our visit with Danielle before she leaves later this week for Japan - next time we see her (other than on Skype and pictures) will be Christmas. We've been to all her favorite places, ate all her favorite foods and she's gone to visit former bands and classmates, and her friends, etc. It won't be long before she is settled in. I've already met some other moms with kids over in the band or on the ship she will be on. Hope all is going well for you and your family. Kathy

Hi Patty, I noticed one of your comments on Robyn's page that you might be struggling a little with finding a group you feel comfortable with and I would like to recommend this one: ASK the SDC or Great Lakes A School Q&A (it's one and the same..just changed names recently). Not only do we get all our questions answered by three of the "top guns" there at GL, we have a lot of fun in supporting each other. I think I am the only grandma on there, but the moms have made me feel very welcome. Give us a try...and good luck to Jillian when she gets to Pensacola.
