I'm getting really excited about PIR now, too! We are taking off a week from today and will arrive in Chicago late afternoon on Wednesday. Jesse wasn't sure what he would be doing for PIR when I spoke to him last Friday. I guess we will find out soon enough. He didn't say anything about the gas chamber either. I do think they will be doing Battlestations next Tuesday though! Hang in there... we will be seeing our boys soon!

Thanks so much for the encouraging words. It really means alot to me. I am so excited for you getting ready for PIR. What a wonderful, wonderful time!! I can hardly wait to see Jacob again.

Thanks again for you sweet, kind words. They blessed my heart today!

Blessings,
Renee

Hey Patty,

Did you get your phone call from Chad this morning? Jesse called about 90 minutes ago, and it was so good to hear from him. He says that the division is doing really well now, not getting too much IT these days (I guess they got alot at about week 3). He had a bad cold the earlier part of the week, but got some nasal decongestant and ibuprophen from medical. Actually, he said that most everyone has had colds and such lately. I guess they have been cooped up indoors alot because of the weather. He said that the temperature there was 40 below zero with the wind chill this morning. Apparently, they still have about a foot of snow on the ground, too. Ugh. I am definitely not looking forward to that weather. Well, I hope by now you have heard from your son! Have a wonderful day!

I called Jesse's recruiter and he said that he couldn't give me any information about Jesse's progress... hmmm... I guess you are fortunate that Chad's recruiter could give you an update. No luck here. He said that if I had not heard anything it probably means everything is okay.. You know the old "no news is good news" thing. Let me know if you hear anthing, anyway, will you? Thanks, Patty!

How are you doing, Patty? I'm looking forward to meeting you at the meet and greet before PIR. I still have only gotten 2 letters and 1 phone call from Jesse, so I am wondering what he is up to. Have you heard from Chad what the division is doing? It's nice to know that our boys know each other. Take care!

Hi Patty,
Haven't heard from you in awhile. How's it going? Hope all is well and that you are getting excited about the graduation! I just posted a note on the PIR page saying that I had not heard from Jesse for ages. I have only received a total of two letters and one phone call. If you are hearing from Chad, what's DIV 911 up to now? Thanks in advance!

Hey Patty,
Megan also told me that her dark black dye job has grown out a lot and her strawberry blonde roots are showing really bad. She said the RDC calls her "skunk" for the way her hair looks. She didn't mind about the nickname as she has a good sense of humor about that kind of stuff. So if Chad isn't sure if he knows Megan or not, just tell him to look for the girl with the crazy skunk hair. I'm not sure if the Mass. flag and the Kentucky flad are close together in the drill but I'll ask Megan about Chad next time I write.

You're so welcome. I figure us moms have to stick together. I love it when other moms give me info so I thought I'd do the same. I got a 20 min phone call from Megan at 6:30am this morning. I was half asleep and almost didn't answer it because I didn't know what was going on. Then I noticed the 847 area code and grabbed it. I was so excited to hear her voice I made her laugh by screaming "It's you! It's you!" I was a little worried when she first left about how she was, but when I heard they don't even let the recruits outside if the weather is too bad, then I knew the Navy was taking care of her :) Not as well as I could, of course, but she's happy and she actually said she like the Navy and the hard PT. She also said whenever they do go out, they have to wear heavy duty cold weather gear complete with ski masks. She said they all look like bank robbers :) Their big puffy coats make them all look like the stay puff marshmallow guy :) She said some of the recruits fell down because they slipped on the ice while marching somewhere. The RDC had to halt the division and get someone to help the fallen stay puff guys because they were like turtles that got flipped onto their backs :) I know she's doing ok as her silly sense of humor is still there :)

Yay! We both got phone calls from our kids! What a great way to start off the New Year, huh? We got ours early this morning and were able to talk for about 20 minutes. It was great to hear his voice. He told me that he knows Chad and likes him. Jesse also told me that everyone in the division gets along well. I will be sure to pass along any more info I get, as it comes available, but my son has only written 2 letters and called once, so... unless he picks up the pace, YOU may have to be the one to fill ME in! Take care, Patty, and enjoy the rest of your day... :)

Hi Patty,

Don't feel too badly about not getting any phone calls from Chad. I haven't gotten any from Jesse either, and I have only received two letters since he started boot camp on December 1. I know that they have been busy. Jesse said that, on Christmas Day, he took a 4 hour watch just so that his shipmates could write letters and hang out. That really touched my heart. He is such a sweet guy. I hope that Chad and he get to know each other.

As for travel plans for us, we are flying out on Thursday to O'Hare. I will be getting tickets in the next couple of days. We are going to take our chances and get non-refundable tickets on United Airlines. Our plans are to stay at the Residence Inn in Waukegan, since they offer a free hot breakfast and have a full kitchen, which we will use to prepare quick meals and have more time to hang out at the hotel with our son. I had booked the Courtyard originally, but changed my mind and opted for the full kitchen instead at the Residence. It would be great to meet you when you get to Chicago. We can make some plans to do that, if you like.
