If you are checking into making hotel reservations, check with the Residence Inn by Marriott in Waukegan/Gurnee. It was fabulous. We had a suite of rooms and kitchen for $69/night. His family stayed there, too. They put us in suites that were side by side. I can't say enough about it. They had shuttle service to PIR for $3 per person each way.
Yes, write to your young man every chance you get. Don't be dismayed if you don't get many in return or even just real short notes when you do get something. They have very little "writing" time. Print out pictures to send to him on regular paper.. maybe use the margins to write notes, etc.
Also, phone calls can be few a far between.. it depends on the RDC's. We sent a prepaid phone card for him to use when he did get to make a call.

the other is something like "wives, girlfriends and fiancees" of sailors. They will both help you learn your way through the rest of boot camp and the loneliness you feel.
also, look up your boyfriends ship and div. I joined my son's group and we remain in contact to this day, some 7 months later.
Take care and keep in touch and write to your guy at least once a day!

We have something for everyone here groups from boot camp moms to overseas moms and moms that like to scrap book. We have meet and greets to events that the moms set up to meet each other and have dinner or an outing. There are groups to help you with each and every step of this wonderful adventure that our children have chosen called the US Navy.
Please tell us about your sailor and what they have chosen to do in the navy and ohh yeah we LOVE pictures of everyone !!
