I can remember when hubby was overseas sending things such as powdered fruit drinks, beef jerky, hard candy and other small items. Even things like extra socks and underwear come in handy.

Don't mix toiletries and food in the same package, the heat can drive the scents into the food items. Gummi bears are heat sensitive as anyone who has left a bag in a hot car knows.

Profile Information

About me:
I am the proud mom of Cameron, a new sailor. He is my first born and I was extremely young when I had him so he's very much a "mama's boy" and joining the Navy is something we both needed to help break us of that. I know he will always continue to make me proud!
I am here to support or represent my:
Cameron
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Was proud, Encouraged him/her
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Patience!! Lot's of patience. And that every mom has so many of the same feelings I have. Scared, proud, anxious, nervous, worried, etc. I also learned that talking about all of these feelings is very helpful.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Care Package

Hello All
Does anyone have any suggestions for items that I can put into a care package to be sent to my son in Afghanistan? This is his first deployment and I have not a clue what I can/should send - neither does he for that matter :-) Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers
Rebecca

I see you like Bonnie Raitt too. I love her and Delbert McClinton. Your dog is SOOOOOOOO cute. I have a question for your car buff husband. Its funny you say Cameron is a momma's boy. My son says he joined the Navy partly to wean me off him. Wahhh! He's my only. The tattoo looks like my sons tattoo on his back. I don't like them, but he has what looks like angel wings with an X joining them. Its straight edge, or someone who doesn't smoke drink or do drugs. Then he just got a presbyterian cross on his arm. Enough already!

Rebecca - Saw your posted question on the WA/OR N4Ms web site. When we went to PIR graduation in June 08, we weren't given tickets...although they talked about tickets in the letter that was sent. Our son had to put our names on a list and as we checked in at GL, they checked our names against the list. Since this may have changed in the ensuring months, see if you can jump in on a parent group for a class that is about to graduate and ask the question of parents in that group...that way you'll know.
