How excited you must be to see your daughter! It is very exciting to attend a homecoming, the cheers and tears...moments that you won't forget. As Melissa shared with you below, you want to make sure that you have the most current homecoming details. Often specifics can change right up to the last minute, you will need to know what pier the ship is arrriving at as well as the day and time. Often the FRG/Ombudsman will have a planning party before homecoming and will share those details then or they will email them to you. Sometimes they need your name for base security so you will be allowed to enter the base that day without a permit. Otherwise there should not be anything that you need to do for your daughter per say. Some sailors have their sailor phones on military freeze while deployed if that is the case, you might ask your daughter if she wants you to turn it on. I know some sailors live off base and turn off some of their utilities to save $$ and the families will get those activated again before they pull into the pier but generally you just want to be there to welcome them home and then see what she wants to do. She maybe more than happy to come home and do absolutely nothing for a few days!!! Just enjoy your time together!

Send Miranda an email and ask her to get you on the ombudsman email list. Send me a PM with the name of the ship Miranda is on and I'll try and get that email address for you.

I don't think you need to do anything before your daughter returns unless she asks you to do something. There will be lots of other parents there along with wives and children. Has the ombudsman for your daughter's ship emailed you with homecoming information??? You HAVE to connect with the ombudsman or else you will not be able to get on base to see the ship come in.

Port-starboard watch the is Navy's terminology for "guard duty". A few Sailors always have to be on deck (the outside of the ship) looking out for anything that could endanger the ship. The watches last about 4 hours and they usually work in a rotation so the same Sailor doesn't get the same watch all the time. Our Sailors had to start doing watches in boot camp. They even have watches for the buildings while they are in school. For most Sailors the watches are very boring but a necessary part of Navy life. One of the things they are always looking out for is 'man overboard'. Hope this helps and always feel free to ask questions. :)

Keep trying. Did you find the ships web-site? I f you did they will post or should post pictures there and beable to sell the cruise book for you to buy. If not ask the Obudmans from your ship if they do anything for parents on land. Keep me informed. HUGS AND KISSES TO ALL OUR SAILORS

You can enjoy the deployment with your daughter by checking the ship web-site for more picture of her and get them printed out and make a scrap book for her of ports she visits and then when she comes home on leave enjoy the tears and laughs you both will have looking at the book

Wow... considering the chances for that, it's pretty amazing. I have a few more of these pics at the rail... if you want copies let me know!
