Hi Rita,
Thought I'd write to see how you are doing? Hope things are going well for you.

Hi Rita,
It was good to hear from you. We're back in San Diego. What an experience. I looked for Forrest when we went to the Ward Room to eat but I didn't see him. I hear those guys don't get out of the engine room much.
I'll be sending more journals soon.

Does anyone know how much the Tiger Cruise cost? My husband seems to think it's quite expensive?

TIGER cruise is set up for parents and children (over the age of I think 10). You meet the ship in Hawaii on it's way back from deployment. You then spend 5 days traveling with the ship to San Diego. The squadrons on board put on an air show, you get fed well, and you get to see what ship life is like. It sounds like one of those once in a life time experiences that the general population will never experience. I learned about it while watching the PBS special "Carrier". As I was watching it, I emailed my son and told him to save room for me as I was coming :) Sean said the guys whose parents came last time had a blast. So that is my plan.
My son's girlfriend is in the Air Force (makes for an interesting relationship) and she is currently in Iraq. Your son in law will be in my thoughts. Personally, I'd much rather have Sean on the ship than on land. Have a good day.- Donna

I'll try to keep Columbus day weekend free. It will depend on when the ship heads back to port. I really want to go on the TIGER cruise. If they are on time, that should be in October. I'm saving my pennies and am so excited to go.
If you head over this way sooner, just let me know. - Donna

Maybe the next time you're in NH we can meet somewhere. We go to some of the fiber events so that may be a good place to meet. We moved to the Lakes region 5 years ago (we're by Newfound Lake) as a pre-retirement move. We love it up here. In our area house prices are still fairly reasonable. The trick is to sell the home you're living in and that seems almost impossible these days- at least around here.
Sean called mothers day weekend also. I missed the call as we were out. Since he works most nights, he calls when he's done flying which usually is around 9 or 10 in the morning here. He also has no sense of day or time unless it's Sunday. He seems to enjoy the brunch the ship has on Sundays and looks forward to it. He says he even goes twice some weeks.
Hope you are having a good weekend- Donna

We live in the lakes region of NH. There are many Siberian mushers up in this area. My husband has been trying to learn to spin and I have a loom but haven't woven in years. Once I retire, I hope to have time for all the crafts I love to do. Did you go to the spinning and weaving show Mother's day weekend?

Thanks for the advice. Care packages have been easy to send. I'm a first grade special ed teacher and one of the first grade classes have collected supplies and have shipped 7 boxes of goodies to Sean's Squadron. We have also sent several boxes.
We have 9 siberian huskies and we do recreational mushing. Someday I may run a race but I do this for the fun of being with the dogs. The picture on my page is when Sean and his dad went out last Feb. We had a great winter for sledding. Is your relative who raced Siberians in the northeast?
Take care, Donna

Good to hear from you. Sean didn't think he could fly due to his eyesight either. He was a semester from graduation (he graduated in Dec. 2005) when he help his then girlfriend move to Pensacola for NFO school. While he was there he went golfing with some of his friends and they told him that there were guys in their classes who wore glasses and he should check it out. He did and he found out that he could be an NFO with his eyesight but at that time not a pilot. He has since heard the rules have changed again and he could be a pilot but he is enjoying his job as a WSO in the jet. Flying is what he has wanted since he was a young child and he started taking flying lessons at 15. Due to his eyesight and wearing glasses since the age of 7, he never thought it possible to do what he's doing now.
Hope your son is doing well on deployment. I'm assuming this is not his first deployment. Any suggestions for a new mom going through this for the first time?

Hi Rita, Welcome. I'm Donna from NH and my son is also an officer on the Lincoln. My son also started out enlisted in the nuke program. He then went to college and a ROTC scholarship and expected to be a Nuke when he finished. BUT he ended up applying to flight school and is now a backseater in and F-18. This is his first deployment and I am finding this the most difficult time since he joined. I haven't joined the Lincoln group but I read it daily.
Is this your son's first deployment? Hope to hear back from you.
