Hi Robin, I've been out of the look for a while but I wanted to comment that I think Matt is stunning! He takes after his Mom, I guess. I saw his photo in the Keel the other day and went, "WOW". I have been out of the loop for a month, so if you have time catch me up.

Cody's Pictures arrived yesterday!!!!!!! YEA!!!! Boy I stayed on it like a blood hound and the package arrived complete. I also received the Keel book the day before. That is kinda Kewl. I called Cody last night and told him everything arrived in order and he was thrilled, Of course I thanked him profusely for such an elaborate gift.

Cody Classed up a couple of weeks ago so I got to send him a big box of civvies from his storage closet. He still can't have his car and may have 6 more months to start A school. He has taken the personal finance course but still can't pay his Sprint bill. Duh.. What's up with that?

We hope he can do a HARP leave and come back to help his recruiter for 2 weeks. It is cheaper to fly him home and back then us drive to p-cola and stay a few days. He had to come home soon as he left some unfinished business that is going to cost him over 1 months pay. He we pretty devastated when he found out but now seems to be facing the facts. Fact is he needs to step up. That is what they are teaching these young adults and he is getting another very expensive lesson.

I am going to try to put some pics on my page soon. Been to busy to try to figure it out. Duh, blonde...

Hi Robin!

Thanks for all the great information!

Well - after begging me to send his phone (and lots of other stuff), he went out and purchased a new blackberry storm today. Of course, he had to call me on it - he had free time this afternoon - and he was very excited about it. He did tell me they will be doing a lot of cleaning while they are processing paperwork. He hoped to be able to start "real" classes by the 23rd!

Eric has a room to himself right now - he is actually in the rooms assigned to the power school sailors, as they are doing some recarpeting. He sounds a lot happier and a bit more relaxed. Yesterday the 8th grade boys from church (my younger son among them) made up a care package for him - it was so fun. They even made birthday cards for Eric - his birthday is next week on the 20th. Eric was hoping he could go out and have a beer on his birthday - but that is not going to happen. Oh well, as I told him - there will be time for that later!

Thanks for e-mailing me and keep in touch!

Lynn,

Matt's experiences have all been good since leaving boot camp. I am so sorry that that hasn't been the case for Cody!

I just can't imagine all those young men aimlessly hanging around Pensacola for months on end. Matt is currently in Charleston. While waiting for his A school to class up, he has been cleaning the common areas. His group just got placed permanently on Head duty because they did such a good job that they actually received multiple compliments. So now they are the Head crew until they get out of indoctrination, which we think is another week or two.

I seriously cannot wait for Matt to come home. He certainly never cleaned the head at home!!! LOL! That, however, takes about 2 hours of his time (after PT, of course) and then he is at liberty.

This morning, though, he is completely at liberty and slept in for the first time since going to boot camp. He's off for the weekend and Monday which is Martin Luther King Day. My understanding is that A school is run like a job since they are getting paid for it. No Spring breaks, etc., but they do get weekend and holiday liberty. Of course, once A school starts up, the course of study will be fast-paced and intense.

So after the snow and cold of Chicago, Matt is in heaven. He says the Golden Marshes are beautiful, and the wooded areas remind him of the greenbelts here at home. Not to mention that he just bought his new laptop yesterday. Thanks to Mary and Chris, Matt received his cell phone at the airport and has been able to call home on a regular basis. once or twice a day, as well as catch up with his friends here at home.

Matt's also found some of the 058 group that are there as well. They watched the new Mummy movie the together the night before last in the MWR rec room on-site.

I haven't heard anything about Matt needing new camos yet, but it sounds as if they become mandatory at the beginning of next year, if I read Mary's note correctly. So they'll have a full year to save up for them. Matt just got a loan for his laptop. They're taking the payments automatically out of his account, so he doesn't have to worry about late payments, plus he's gaining a good credit history. I wonder if they give loans for uniforms?

I am praying that Cody's experiences in Pensacola become positive ones filled with sunshine and joy, Lynn! Please keep us posted on Cody's adventures in Pensacola. I hope things take a drastic turn for the better soon!

Hi Robin, it was great to meet you at the Meet and Greet. I am just starting so slow down from the trip, what about you? Where did Matt go? Will he start A school right away?

Cody went to Pensacola and got the wind knocked out of his sail when he found out it may be 8 months before he goes to A school. This is sad, means no car, no advancement, no leave, no purpose.

In addition, his bunk mate picked up Cody's photo box (Cody had already put his photos in the frame and all his photos were in the box. $200.00 worth). The bunk mate had not put his photos in the frame box,so he took his envelope with the photos and Cody's frame box. Cody was devastated when he open the box to present it to us. Well the scenario got worse as the bunk mate got full weekend liberty and would not be back till Sunday. Cody shipped out Sunday morning at 0600. There is very little chance that we will ever see hose photos. Cody left the bunk mates empty frame with the Chief on duty and he said he would try to get them back. We can only pray that the recruit does the right thing and not just throw out Cody's photos.

I am going to try to get the recruits last name from Cody and APB this site and see if the other recruit salvaged the photos.

Best of luck to Matt and I hope he does great!

I wish Cody would consider going unencumbered but he insists on having all his toys. Oh well, they supposedly have made them into big boys!!!

What does your T-shirt look like? I guess I will not have time to get creative, barely have time to pack.

Hi Robin,
Yes, Cody did go to the Baptist Church and said it was wonderful. Do you know the exact church and city?

Cody is also making a flag. On Monday 12-5 he wrote about painting the division flag. Perhaps they are working on the same one.

He said they have been playing music in the barracks in the evening, of late, and it is very uplifting for the spirit.

Under a week now!

God bless our young men and women, in Boot Camp and deployed around the world. Grant them the knowledge and skills they'll need to survive, help each other, and protect our Nation. Lord, bring them through each storm and danger safely, securely grounded in Your love.

Amen.

Hi Robin, Happy that you heard from Matt on Xmas day. Cody got 10 minutes yesterday and it was great to hear from him. He said they were taken to a church that was 1.5 hr away to have a wonderful dinner on Christmas day. I said, "Great! So you got to see some scenery!" His comment was " Well if you call bare trees and snow scenery!"

Anyway, looks like our boys are becoming men on the fast track.
