Sandra, Hi . Graduation will be great!!! PLEASE remind him to GET THE PHOTOS AND VIDEO. 2 IF YOU CAN. One for you and one for him seams one always gets lost over the years and they can be saved for his children. The video can be copied to DVD at Walgreens or someplace. It was 5 years befor my son got deployed to a war zone. So school can be quite a while. Cell Phone and a good lap top come in handy and a camera. On ship those under the cabinet lights help get to your bunk at night and let others sleep. On ship its COLD even in summer he'll need a sleeping bag for below zero there. On ship photos can be sent to you from him . Only he has access to the ship photos. They are great when you get them. There is a Navy.news.mil web site wich you can search his bases and ships and job so you can see where he is going befor he gets there and so can he. THAT might releave some anxiety when he goes to sea. My son was in the war zone and is home safe now. His father died when he was just over 1 and he has grown so much since he got in. Out of boot camp I didnt see it he was still him . But the change did finally come. HAVE FAITH AND GOOD LUCK. Please write if I can help any time.

Hi Sandra, I just relocated to Great Lakes with my husband who had his PIR on 10/17 and is stationed here for A school. Do you know what your son's actual job is? That is what determines if they Navy will pay for the relocation and if they will grant him permission to live ashore. As far as the BAH and the medical, he will send her that information in the mail around week 2-3 of BC and she will have to go to the nearest base to her and obtain her Military ID. She will need that ID for everything. There are 2 different types of insurance that she can choose from depending on their needs. It is all very confusing and overwhelming, but tell her to stay calm and take a DEEP BREATH :0) Please let her know that I would be more than happy to help her with anything she needs. My e-mail is lagilbert0923@gmail.com and I have a MySpace as well.

Congrats on having a son that would be so brave to make a decision to join the Navy and I will keep you in my thoughts. Please let me know if I can help with anything.

Hey Sandra. If you or your daughter in law need any help with anything give me a holler and i'll try my best to help you. My hubby graduated BC on Sept. 12th and is Connecticut for A school right now. What will your son be doing? He will find out wether his wife will be able to accompany him when he meets with the classifier towards the end of bootcamp. They are the ones who "designate" the jobs and tell the sailors about the job they will be doing and at that point he will be able to ask about how long the school is. If it is 20 weeks or longer then he should be able have her move out. They should automatically be on his page 2 which will be the housing b/c she should be enrolled into DEERS [medical ins.] She will get all that information in the mail and will have to go to the closest military installment to her to get her military ID. She needs her military ID for EVERYTHING that is her insurance card. Anyways, like I said if you need any help with anything im always here. = )
