My son got his 5th or 6th or maybe 7th choice. Yet, it worked out and he loves where he is living and has a great crew. Not everyone can go to Hawaii! Good luck, and I remember waiting and waiting to find out where he was going.

What is the NUPOC program? My son went to Nuke school after college, and quite a few of our children on this site did. Is it the same thing? Search back in our archives for descriptions of the NUKE program. Welcome to our group!

Speaking of empty nesters, right outside our screened in porch is a cardinals nest, right at eye level. As of this morning, we have three eggs. The momma seems to be doing a good job, and I feel like I am going to be a grandma soon. I told my oldest…

I just talked to my son who went through ROTC (mechanical engineering) and then did the Nuke program. His advice is 30 miles away to do ROTC is too far. He said PT at 5:30 would be almost impossible to do, and scheduling ROTC classes with his regula…

Great information, Sandy. My dad had USAA as he was a Coast Guard lifer and that sounds like a great idea. I really appreciate it.

Hi Sandy,
We are in Cranford presently. We've made an offer on a house in Berkley Heights and hope it will close by end of June. Looks like we are only about 30 minutes from Somerville. If there is ever a "meet & greet" I'd love to be a part of it. Or help organize one if there are more N4M's in NJ.
My son Brian was ROTC at Northwestern in Chicago and has been commissioned about a year. He is stationed in San Diego getting ready to be deployed in July. He is working on becoming a SWO. He'll be in Rhode Island for SWOS-ASAT for the next two weeks and we are thrilled to get to see him one more time before deployment. Yes, I love it that everything is so close!

Thanks for writing. During Katrina, Drew stayed in Baton Rouge and worked at the shelter that was set up in the basketball arena. One of his jobs was to take the sharp objects out of the care packages-go figure! He loved LSU and still has many friends in Baton Rouge.

Hi Sandy,

I asked if anybody knew where the secret decoder "acronym" ring was... They sent me this. Hope it helps. My oldest did AF ROTC at GA Tech. He blew out his ankle during his 1st semester. He still stayed at Tech. It was tough to give up ROTC, but luckily for him God was one step ahead. Can't imagine how much harder it would be to leave the AF Academy in Colorado Springs.

Toledo, right down the road from here. So your son is a Nuke...obviously very smart! Yes, three months is very long not to talk to them and I have read that the email on subs is almost non-existent because of its very nature. With my daughter, so far (less than a year) we speak usually several times a week and email a couple of times if needed. We speak less often when she's been underway but that was stateside now that she's headed overseas ... we'll see how it goes. Yes, she is headed somewhere safe and very interesting;>)

Hi Sandy ~ actually I'm in MI but things do have a way of changing!! ;>) My daughter is stationed in Norfolk and I really like the area there. Yes, I really like the huge Navy presence in Norfolk...seems like every fifth person is Navy or military. Where do you live now? My daugther is headed out on her first deployment.
