Profile Information

About me:
Hi all. I am former Navy. I served 6 years in the 90's. I found this site via a tv ad. I am here to help you guys navigate Naval culture. It can be confusing and hard to understand the culture. Please feel free to ask me anything.

THE SAFTEY PIN STORY
I went to college before I transfered to the Navy. Being the typical 18yo kid the world did not move fast enough. 'what do you mean the car is not packed?' My step-grandfather drove there with all my stuff. My mom, being a mom was doing everything in God's heaven to delay it.

So I was missing a button on my shirt, and in one last bitter attempt to drag it out she ran in to get a safety pin to fix it. When she came back, me being a typical son, albeit polite to my mom, said "thanks mom." but then walked off to the car and put it on my belt loop thinking "MOMMMMM, argh"

Got to college and then it hit me. I am away from home and I don't have my mom or family or anyone. Just then I happened to brush the safety pin with my hand and realized that somewhere in the world there was someone who loved me.

The entire time in Navy and to this day I always have a safety pin on my belt loop. It helps when all you see is ocean and get homesick. Just rub the safety pin and know someone loves you.
I am here to support or represent my:

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Thinking about joining
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
My experience with the Navy after being in for 6 years taught me to "Man Up." This is the real life and it is time to grow up. Even though I do not use the same skill set in my day to day job it taught me how to be humble, learn-from and show respect to my superiors and others. It also taught me to "plan for the worst but hope for the best."
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Hi Scottie. I guess all our late nite chats about ice cream & anything funny are over. It sure helped me through the hard times of missing my sailor. Everyone seemed to quit the site, since the new chat started. I miss it alot. Keep in touch. Judi

Hey Scotty--what's up with you and T? I'm planning to hit the union Station kick off April 16th. The Navy Freedom Band is playing! Should be awesome. They are also doing 2 or 3 other gigs in that week--it's under events on April's calendar.
