The Call Came @ 1:49 a.m.

We got our call at 1:49 a.m. on Wednesday morning to tell us I'm here, I'm fine and you will be getting my stuff back in a box soon. We had dropped him off on Monday just before lunch to the recruiter's office. We did get to talk to him some in between that time, but I had been waiting on that what seemed to me, to be the final call. The last call before my son, the funny kid, the messy kid, the sometimes didn't want to listen to mom kid, becomes a man. I am sure many of you know what I am tryin… Continue

Our Lives Begin In The U.S. Navy

Today my family became part of the U.S. Navy. My one and only son reported to his recruiter for duty. It was a very emotional day for me, his girlfriend and his two sisters. We are very proud of him and know he will be a great addition to the Navy. I just hope I can survive basic training, It's not him I am worried about. I am just so thankful to have this site to help me over the next few weeks. I can use all the friends and advice you have to offer.

Great photo Shannon. Hope you are all doing well. Is Justin moved and settled now? Hannah is on medical hold until Tuesday when she should get results!

Hi Shannon, Hope you are having a great day too and not affected by the storms. When do you head out and how long does it take to get to Chicago? I just had the shock of my life, Hannah is an Honor Graduate for their Division, we are so proud of her and just can't believe it. What with Justin carrying the flag for their Division, our kids have really shown us what they are made of (after the years of sleepless nights and worrying)! Hope you and Brooke are doing better. Take care Judi

Hi Shannon, is your J going to A school? Mine is also a HMC. Will you be at the meet & greet at Flanagan's? Hope to meet you there.

Hello Shannon,

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reply. I'm excited to find a "neighbor!" We live in Northwood Lake. Our son is on the USS Thach, which is with the USS Ronald Reagan. Are you on Facebook? I haven't been part of this group for long, so I'm trying to think of a safe way to make connections. They remind us to be careful about broadcasting personal info.
Hope to talk with you soon.

Good Week For You!!!! Glad you got to talk to him...it's funny how they couldn't do things at home for us!! I laugh about all the comments regarding ironing etc. Ours couldn't "find" the hamper or shut the pantry door. Wonder how many push-ups he has had to do for bed making? Think my 15 year old daughter needs a "mini" boot camp!!

We are going into Week 5 right? Half way to hugs and wow you look great!! Can't wait!!

I must have rambled on for too long and ran out of space. We had planned on taking a suitcase out for Hannah and cell phone, but she said she has to stay after graduation for a few more days. I think I will call the hotel and see if we can store it there as we leave on the 28th. Are you taking things for Justin?

Hi Shannon, Hope all went well with the Youth Ministry, I applaud you both for doing it. We went back to Rhode Island for few days to visit my elderly in-laws, Ron is still there until tomorrow, but I had to get back to work. I am so happy for you that you got to talk to Justin and he is doing well. The letter must have been very emotional for all of you; they must do some real soul-searching and evaluating what really matters when they are at boot camp. We can see from Hannah's letters the transformation from a So-Cal valley type girl to being far more appreciative and loving, each letter she tells us several times how much she loves us, misses us and thanks for all we have done for her. She seems to be doing great other than that, very motivated and good sense of humor. She thinks the worst thing is the 2 minute showers with 40 other women and only shaving legs on Sunday! I told her not to worry as everyone has hairy legs together by Saturday. Did Justin tell you anything about staying on until the 30th?

Hi Shannon, Did you get your phone call yet this week? Hannah had her call and called her boyfriend. she is in really good spirits and seems to be making the best of bootcamp. She can't wait to see us and for graduation. Biopsy is scheduled for Sept. 4th, but as she said in a letter if the Navy was concerned they would have sent her home. Well they are almost half way through now so we can all start planning for the 25th. Take Care Judi
