Laura, My son finallly left for San Diego on 6/19 and is starting A school today. He was able to come home for the July 4th weekend and we had a great visit. Hope things work out well for your son.

APRIL, My son PIR on 6/19, is now on medical hold at RTC waiting transfer to Main side for SCC. His hold is longer than SCC would have been! He's in good spirits, and can't wait for that dr. appt on 7/16. He doesn't know now if his orders will cha...

My son has been in since April of 08 and has been on hold 3 times during his schooling. Each one has lasted 3 weeks to 2 months. During his down time, he worked as a volunteer for both Habitat for Humanity and the VA hospital and earned another ri...

I would agree with this as well. My son and I had many discussions before he even made the appointment to speak to the recruiter and I went with him and was very involved with everything. At every juncture though I asked my son what he wanted me t...

It's like that across the board.. after graduating a school there have been a lot of people that have had to wait on PCS orders to their new duty station.. it's because lack of funding from what i have gathered.. it was going to happen to my husba...

I'm sure by now your son has graduated. I went to A school in Mississippi and graduated with honors. Doing that advanced me to E-4 with the ability to test for E-5 in the next cycle. I'm hoping he kept up and did his best. My husband was on hold b...

Tell him not to take it personally and to keep up the good work. It will pay off in the long run. The hold issue is a money thing for the Navy. We heard a while ago that they had run out of money to move people, then a few weeks later people did s...

Hi, as far as I know my husbands recruiter has told us that since "A" school is constant and there are graduates from basic going all sorts of place for "A" school that sometimes the students have to wait for a full class to start. My husband was ...

From a military member, as of right now, all PCS orders have been placed on hold until the next fiscal year which is in October. This is probably the reason your son was placed on hold. Other reason's could include clearances and medical issues. O...

Sharon, This time of year it is not that unusual for orders to be placed on "hold". It's the beginning of the last quarter of the fiscal year and money is tight (as usual). Both you and he need to have faith. He won't be hanging around that long. ...

We have seen so much of things being placed on hold, or assignments extended. It is not personal. I guess I equate it to this. In the private sector, jobs are lost, homes are gone, and some things come to a grinding hault in this economy. It shows...

Thank you! Just to keep everyone up to date. My son DID make "Honor Graduate" and will be shipping out next week as planned. Your support and feedback helped both he and I. Thanks again everyone.

Hello. I won't lie to you it is going to be very difficult, especially if you didn't go through it yourself. I went though basic training for the Air Force, so I knew kind of what to expect. He won't be able to call or write very much. It will pro...

Hi - I have been a Navy Mom for 7 years now - and I have discovered that no time frame or date is held in stone. I believe 100% of the time for both of my sailors - have had times changed. At first I counted on the time frame they initially would ...

Do look in the bootcamp forum where a lot of moms who are new to to all are talking. There are groups too, I'm sure someone has set up a group for bootcamp moms. Your post will get lost down in this thread, so maybe start a new one to contact othe...

This sounds very familiar! and it will happen over and over again... we warn them that someone has to take out the trash don't we? It makes them appreciate all aspects of the Navy and while delays are discouraging, it gives them opportunities to m...

Hi sharon- my son has just left for Berain Saudia Aribia (sp?) and he is married and 1 week before he left the Navy said his wife could not go. They told her all along she could. They were very dissapointed. They have been married 1 year. I was wondering if this was common practice? In Navy?? Hope all goes well with your son.
