So glad you got together with PNBM. I'm sure he was wonderful to meet. You can just read his thoughtfulness in his post. I'm sure you passed on a huge hug from us all.

Welcome Sue --- I met our proud navy boatmans last night and OMG what a wonderful guy --just as wonderful and helpful as he is here on the site. Tucker came with and he was so taken by how cool and neat he was :) Hugs to you all :)

Profile Information

About me:
I'm the Mom of a 22 year old recruit who arrived at basic training on May 1st, 2008. He was in Division 932, Ship 06, and had his 21st birthday on June 8th, during basic training. He graduated from RTC on June 27th 2008, as a member of the rifle guard, and made us so very proud of him.
I'm married to Perry, in our 28th year together. We have Martin, 22 (our sailor) and Angela who is 19. I have been a secretary for almost 30 years, and presently work full time at one of our local hospitals in the Performance Improvement Department. Before this job (I started 12/17/07), I worked only part time as our church's secretary, and had homeschooled both of our children until their high school years.

Martin was on hold from mid-August until December 3, 2008, and it was a real challenge for him to stay positive through the months of waiting. But now is in Hawaii on the USS Crommelin FFG37 in Pearl Harbor, and will be deployed in June. Finally, he is really doing what sailors are meant to do....living on a ship, and going to sea!

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Basic training was harder for me than it was for my son.
Trust in God, pray, write letters, pray some more.
Hurry up and wait.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Any calls from your sailor? I received two today. One at 0330...yeah was time to get up anyway...ha ha!!! and another at 0700!!! Sounds like they are doing good...mine was trying some "different food" and then going to a piano bar!!! Hope they get pics while they are there!! Hope Martin's friend is OK. I'll be thinking of you and sending up prayers!

Sheila: I went to the store looking for Halloween cards and came upon some really nice Veteran's Day cards, so kinda want to see how many of those I can scribble a note in and send out in a timely fashion so they will get on or before Veteran's Day...good thing card companies put out cards early especially for us Moms who have a sometimes 2-4 week window before they receive our mail out at sea. If Yankee calls, I will make sure I give a strong hint about that other sailor that needs to make a call!!

Hey Sheila: Yep...I'm sure he's studying...there's always something they are doing for other stuff other than advancement!! Our fair begins this weekend with registration and Monday night is our opening night! Our weather here too has been too much rain...we're hoping for good weather for the fair!! Today is sunny and nice!! Not sure where they are now...Johnny said he hoped to call in next port, since they had to leave early from the last port...will wait on that call!!!
