Profile Information

About me:
I'm the Mom of a 22 year old recruit who arrived at basic training on May 1st, 2008. He was in Division 932, Ship 06, and had his 21st birthday on June 8th, during basic training. He graduated from RTC on June 27th 2008, as a member of the rifle guard, and made us so very proud of him.
I'm married to Perry, in our 28th year together. We have Martin, 22 (our sailor) and Angela who is 19. I have been a secretary for almost 30 years, and presently work full time at one of our local hospitals in the Performance Improvement Department. Before this job (I started 12/17/07), I worked only part time as our church's secretary, and had homeschooled both of our children until their high school years.

Martin was on hold from mid-August until December 3, 2008, and it was a real challenge for him to stay positive through the months of waiting. But now is in Hawaii on the USS Crommelin FFG37 in Pearl Harbor, and will be deployed in June. Finally, he is really doing what sailors are meant to do....living on a ship, and going to sea!

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Basic training was harder for me than it was for my son.
Trust in God, pray, write letters, pray some more.
Hurry up and wait.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Shelia: OMG....25 people for Thanksgiving!?!?! I know it will be a lot of work, but how wonderful. Cory was home for 8 days. He left on the 21st, so just shy of the holiday! He called Thursday evening, so I did get to talk to him. His 21st birthday is Dec. 7th, so we did celebrate that while he was home. You know, I think missing that birthday bums me out more than not sharing the holidays with him.....We always made such a big deal of the 21st for both of his brothers, and I'm going to miss doing that for him!

The "what's up with that?" group has been a huge success and has grown so much over the past year. We really have some fantastic people on there! Anyway, Shelia.....just wanted to say "Hi" and let you know I was thinking of you!
