Profile Information

About me:
I am Mama to 4 children plus two step- children. I am a deaf-blind retired teacher turned writer. We share our love with 12 grandchildren. My youngest son started Navy Boot camp at Great Lakes July 22nd. (update, Ben is in P-cola for school right now) He is next to the last child, our youngest is 14. I am an advocate for the deaf/blind and spend much of my time counseling those newly blind or losing their sight. I have a Seeing Eye Dog named Vantage, he is the door to my world, allowing me to keep doing what I am doing. I look forward to getting to know other Navy Moms to share common ground. (UPDATE) Feb. 2009. Benjamin is on the USS CARL VINSON..he is doing very well!

From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Ben just went to Great Lakes in July, but I did learn something. That given all the clowning and silliness my son as known for, he was ready for me to let go and become a man, I think I learned, he is on his own own and his new journey begins and I am invited to watch, not hold his hand.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
This was the best decision he/she could have made

Ben left from his Leave at Chistmas on Dec. 28th and went back to P-cola. Where he is waiting to get his wisdom teeth out before he can go to his Ship, the USS Carl Vinson. He got a little low after the Holidays. Yes, our sailors work very hard. There is constantly something going on that our sailors have to make sure everything is in its place and they look sharp. Ben will contact you soon as he can. Travis called the other night about 11 pm! And of course I was asleep and all I can remember is he said "I love you and I'll call later, go back to sleep!" I refused and he still insisted, and that was then end of our conversation. I havent heard from him since. But I know he's ok and working hard. They stay busy constantly and once they stop; they sleep. That's good too, cant you see all those young sailors with nothing to do on a ship! OMG! Chaos!!!LOLOLheheheheh No, those guys dont stay idle long. You take care and keep in touch too.

Hi Sheila! Good to hear from you! I understand those teary days; and they are ok to have but know this; I went on the Friends and Family Day Cruise on Travis ship and those guys are doing fine. They work hard, play hard and rest when they can. They miss home dont think they dont; but this is their job now and will be for the next 4 yrs or so; its what they chose to do and I realized a whole lot when I was on that ship. They are growing up and on their own (but we are on the sidelines watching) and its hard but its even harder on them if they stop and really think about it. I hope your day is good. Travis is good and met one of his other buddies; Micah. He is very nice and very smart too. I can really understand the word "liberty" after being on the ship for just a few hours! I cant imagine how these sailors feel after months at sea! No wonder they do the things they do!LOL God Bless and keep in touch. Please tell Ben hello for me and tell him to keep in touch with Travis too.

Hi! We had a problem with our comp. so this is the first I saw your note. Matt is good. After GL he went to Groton, he is now in Pearl Harbor and he seems to love it. I have not seen much of him Other then GL and a few days after sub school when he was home for a visit. I am trying to plan a trip to see him but nothing has workrd out. I hope he gets to come home soon for a visit. I miss him so much. It seems that I have had no time with him since he left for GL almost 2 years ago.
