About me:
I am a proud Navy Mom from south central Kentucky. I am from Barren county which was voted the number one place to live in rural America in 2007 by the Progrssive Farmer magazine. I am a registered nurse and have worked in health care for over 30 years. I have been a Registered Nurse for 29 years, a Case Manager for 12 years,Utilization Review and I am a CCM-Certified case manager. Currently I am a travel nurse case manager.I have two children, my oldest ,a son is married and received a NROTC scholarship and attends USF, after serving 5 years active enlisted. My youngest is a daughter, and a college sophomore at WKU. I have a deer chiihauhua named KOBY who is my faithful companion. I love to travel and have an ambition to see all fifty states and I only lack Alaska!!
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
In the NROTC program
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Needed to learn more about it, Was proud, Encouraged him/her
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
God will protect our children no matter where they are for God is everywhere. This was my family's first close military experience and I have been so impressed by the professionalism, respect, honor and courage these fine young men and women display each and every day. I have so much more respect for the military than I ever have in my life. Our freedoms are owed to our armed forces-"They give all each and everyday for this great country of ours so wemay live free".
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Reflections of boy to man

Here I am, 2009, a divorcee, a nurse, a mom, a "NurseNavyMom" all because a little boy grew up into a young man who decided to make the Navy his career. When he was a baby and toddler, he had 3 little sailor outfits and actually won a beautiful baby contest at our local county fair on his 1st birthday in 1984 wearing one of those outfits with a little sailor hat. When he was young and in the Cub Scouts, he once had to make something out of a litttle block of wood, a paper clip, a popsicle stick,… Continue

Hey there - how's it going? I've been away from this site for a while while getting over a nasty case of bronchitis. Did your son and DIL arrive safely? I know you had a ton of questions about his commissioning. Did you get all the info you needed? If not, let me know and I can share our experiences with you. Hope all is well!!!

Thank you for the very kind words, I myself have always said I have learned more living than any book will ever teach me. My Aunt bless her was a high believe'r in education but, what she failed to see is that she lived and experienced life with all the book smarts. I had heard some of the Home Depot in the area had laid off some people, hope it works out for your DIL. My weekend was short, only saturday off had to be at work early sunday morn. Period close that happens every 4th sunday. Next one Oct. 4th but my son comes home on Oct. 1st til 12th so I do not plan to start my vacation 10/4-10/11 at work.. It has been a long week 1more day. I have a concert to work on sat.9/12 Bruce Springsteen,(I bartend it's a side job). Sunday, I hope to make the curtains for my (stepdaughter's) nursery. Due Nov. 6th She always finds things she wants me to make. She's a wonderful girl she calls me her stepmom even though she has been grown since her father and I got together. Last year Oct. 31st I catered ( all the decor, all cooking, made italian and veggie baked ziti, stuffed shells, meatballs with salad and of course garlic italian bread ) for her wedding. Made enough to feed an (Army) Navy. All her friends were so impressed they all want my number to do their wedding when its time LOL ( yea in my spare time). How's Mom? Is everything O.K. Are you coming to Tpa for Christmas or the kids going to you? keep in touch

Hope Mom's test come back o.k. Keep me posted. I know what you mean about a home when it comes to the kids, I feel the same. That's the only thing keeping me here, along with my parents. I would love to move north, not to far I really don't want the whole snow, freezing stuff. My father is from Maine mom from NY we moved here when I was young but I do remember Maine and NY at winter time.
When my brother was born and on the way home we were STUCK in a snow blizzard in a diner. My father walked the miles to the house and back to get diapers and baby food. Only to arrive and find that police had brought diapers and food to my mom while he was in the storm. What memories. I know I can't get my parents to move and I don't want to be to far away. My children were born and raised here. And now my daughter wants to go into the medical field. I hope I can get thru that. $$ starting over hasn't been easy while always providing for the kids (no price tag comes with that). I am sure you agree and know what I mean. I do not have a college education so making a good salary has not been easy. Your son and DIL are more than welcome to call on me anytime if they need anything. In some cases or situations other college students may not be able to help. I may not have a degree in anything but, I have learned thru alot of reading, along with a lot of life experience. Tell your son to be careful and read everything in the contract ( renting house ). I have heard and seen some people get the raw end of a deal. Just beware of what you sign. Keep in touch let me know how your mom is doing.

Great to hear all is well with your son. Do hope all will be well with your mom. Keep me posted, always in our prayers. I do know the Valrico area, have a lot of co-workers that live in the area. Your daughter in law will not have a problem finding craft stores around. If she needs some help let me know. I do quite a bit myself. I have made drapes, curtains, pillows, clothes you name it. I do crafts, sew, floral arrangements, wood work, concrete, even wrench on my motorcycle. I even have better tools than my boyfriend (so he says). Actually that's why he likes helping me do home improvement projects (gets to use my tools). Trying to hint (for Christmas) I need a bigger tool box. If I didn't I wouldn't have what I have ( divorced, ran with nothing but clothes on my back) started over, let him have all house, business (that I helped get started).
I owe him 0. Kids went to school in Pinellas County so according to FL. law I had to pay child support, but its o.k. with me. Kids were the most important. Anyway I have very creative ideas: my sons room is castle, dragons, swords. 1 bathroom is roman style, other is Connecticut cottage. My bedroom is Serenity Garden. So if she needs any information I'm here. Try not to worry to much. How long are you in Calf.? Will keep your mom in our thoughts and prayers. Talk soon

Hi - I saw some of your comments and I wanted to let you know that my son graduated from USF as a Navy ROTC student. He chose to skip graduation and only attend his Commissioning. It was a beautiful ceremony, and very special as he was the only one commissioned that day. We had the ceremony at the Martin Luther King Reflecting Pool. The entire ceremony is planned the the person getting Commissioned. All you need to do is show up - with tissues!!! Your son may ask you to put his new bars on his uniform. There are a lot of traditions with the ceremony, and your son will tell you what they are... the first salute, the coin to the person he salutes, etc... Then the new Officer hosts' his "wetting down" party - usually at a local restaurant/bar. It can be expensive so he needs to save his $$. I wish he and his wife the very best. If there is anything else I can do for you, please let me know. I am on a plane in a couple of hours to attend my son's Winging in Texas on Friday!! Take care.
