I'm doing that too. I write my son everyday about something little that he would find interesting, I'm just waiting for a reply back. We are on our 15th day of being emptynesters, I have to say, I really don't like it. I can't wait to hear from my b…

Momma! Hang in there...You will be fine and he will be fine!.. Do you have a USO near you? Sometimes the closest one is at an airport...you gould go there and check into volunteering and helping someone else's son or daughter feel comfortable when…

Hi Sheryl (and everyone) I agree with everyone else who wrote telling you to write to Kyle everyday. It served as a "therapy" for me while my son, Zach was in bc. I didn't think I would survive it. I would write what I thought was the most boring le…

Hello everybody! My heart so goes out to you all, as my son has been in the Navy for one year now, and I'm much better, but sure do remember those days! I cried for weeks, 24/7, and my husband just didn't get it, nor did he understand how I could be…

Ok everybody, did you all see my invitation to Molly's Adopt a Sailor Project? This is something that can really keep you busy and involved. There are so many sailors that need things, that don't get any mail at all, that need our support, come be a…

Hi Sheryl, My son and only child joined 3 years ago and left my husband and I emptynesters at the ripe old age of 40 and 43 (all of our friends are just starting families at this age). We both didn't handle it very well. I think I cried daily for a…

Know how you feel. Our only daughter left on June 3rd to the great lakes, IL. This coming Wednesday it'll be two weeks. Received her personal effects in a box & it made me feel weird. I also as many other moms have started to write every day, just l…

Profile Information

About me:
I'm retired (early!) and I' m getting used to staying home and going to the gym, shopping etc..My son is 21 yrs old and was out on his own for 8 months and working, then one day he called and said he was going to join the Navy. My heart sank, I'm proud and very sad at the same time. He decided to stay in 5 years. I will miss him so much and I hope this web site will help me talk to other mom's and cope with all these changes. I also have a daughter Meghan who is 22 and just graduated from the Univeristy of Missouri...she's awesome. She is now attending the University of Kansas for her masters. What a girl!!! I've been blessed with two great kids and plus the dog Sophia.
I am here to support or represent my:
Kyle
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Having N4M's has been a blessing and I know my Kyle made the right choice. I just wish my broken heart would heal. And now it has after 4 weeks!! Yeah. And now after PIR, I know it will be important to stay in touch with moms while we all go through A school for it will be many months before seeing our sailors again.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Hi! Nice sailor you have there! My son is serving on the USS Ronald Reagan outof Coronado/San Diego. I live in nearby Carlsbad. I will do a post about care packages... :) It takes about two weeks or so to get mail.

I heard that a ship on its way to relieve the Reagan had to return to San Diego that was just two days out, hmmm...mechanical problem probably. Not supposed to discuss ships movements...Loose lips sink ships...
Hang in there!

Hey Sheryl....how are you stranger? Hope your summer is off to a great start. Summers always go by so fast. It's hard to believe that it has been a year now that our boys have been in the Navy. Some days it feels a lifetime ago. I was thinking the other day about last summer and how much time I spent on N4M and meeting you. I plan to enjoy my summer more this year. lol. So, how is life treating you? If my memory is correct, Kyle will be home this next week. I am sure your very anxious to see him. What is he doing now? Wyatt was home for a week the week of Memorial weekend. Although we didn't get to see much of him, it was sure nice having him home. He is in SD now and will start C school in July and finish in November. His carrier is deployed right now and is due back in November. He seems to really like it in SD. Spends a lot of time on the beach. Hope he likes it cuz he will be based there for the next 5 years. How is your mom doing? Are you still living with your folks? How is Meghan doing? I hope your doing well and I really do miss our daily conversations we use to have. Miss you! Take care!

Hi there stranger....so nice to hear from you. I also hate that we have lost touch. Even though we don't hear much from each other, I think about you all the time. I hope you know that. You are a dear friend to me. All is going well here. Busy with work as always. This next week is my company's spring food show, so we have been busy preparing for that. It is our 75th anniversary in business so we have to dress up in an outfit from years past. I am doing the 50's. I will be wearing a poodle skirt. Will be fun. Wyatt is doing well. Yes, he is in GL still. He should be graduating from A school in Mid April. He is so ready to move on. His girlfriend and I are driving up to Chicago over Easter to see him. Can't wait. Hope the weather stays nice. Sounds like Kyle has been busy. What does he think about being out to sea? Does he like it? That will be so nice to have him home for awhile. Enjoy him while he is there. How about Meghan. How is she doing? I am glad the divorce is final. I am just sorry you weren't able to work it out. Sometimes it's for the best. Are you still at your parents? How is your mom doing? Is she done with her treatment? I keep her in my prayers. Travis is doing well. I think he is finally moving on now since Jessica left. He is staying pretty busy with work and taking EMT classes. Jim is getting busy with work now that spring has finally sprung! Will be nice to have the extra $$$$in overtime. It is really nice here today. It's at least 70 and sunny but sounds like rain is in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. Oh well, much better than snow and my car could use a bath. You take care and hope to hear from you SOONER than later my friend! hugs:-)

Hey Sheryl, Well I am glad to here you are doing everything you want to. Sounds like Kyle is doing well. I hope your mom is fine, my mother had a masectomy and knock on wood she has been cnacer free for over 21 years. Justin is dong great, he enjoys being a MA he awaits the excitement. Since he may never know what he is doing or where he is going until he gets there. Its hard to admit he will be 20 in April and when he recently came home it was like looking at a man,not my son 19 1/2. He has really grown up and is very caring towards his family. Especially his brothers. I will upload pictures of Carter soon. Take Care.

An ombudsman is a liason between the ship and the family's ----- so when they are out to sea it is the ombudsman who knows where they are /how to contact them if need be. She /He keeps you updated whats happening like they are half way threw deployment and had a bbq the other day-here are some pictures. Its a good thing to be on the newsletter list.

How to do it ----------- go to the ships home page
http://www.nimitz.navy.mil/
this is the link to the family page, on that page you need to read ---there is a paragraph that explains the ombudsman role. I didnt see anything about email her to get on newsletter ---------- OK so we are going to go about this another way. I am A carrier mom BUT its the Carl Vinson and we run differently. SO you need to talk to MP (she is a few comment below me)
Ask her if there is a monthly newsletter you moms sign up for and how you do it. Is there a way that family checks into the USS Nimitz for deployment ? She will understand and will help you threw The USS Nimitz process -------- Im out of my leaugue on this one Momma. Let me know what else I can do ------------you know I will always help you :)

Hello Sheryl! It has been a very long time since I've heard from you. We are doing well. Nick is good. He's on the Lincoln. Seems to enjoy his assignment. I'm so sorry Kyle has been sick. I hope he's better soon! Nick's ship was in San Diego for a week, the Nimitz came back while he was there. Prayers for your mom. I can't imagine how hard it's been for her and your family. Divorce - what can I say? Never fun and will sap the life right out of you if you let it. Stay strong! Definitely keep in touch. I miss all the boot camp moms. :)

Happy Saturday Sheryl...sounds like your keeping busy. I have to clean the snow and ice off my car too. I don't like it much. I will be so glad when spring gets here and the winter is over. I am tired of the cold and snow. It's been a long winter. Today it's suppose to be near 60! Yippee. Tomorrow it's suppose to be near 30!!!! I hope you decide to Kyle's family day. It would be so much fun to be able to go on the ship with him and then when he is out to sea, you will have an idea what it's like for him. I have heard about the Tiger Cruises that Sailors families can take from Hawaii. We are hoping to get the opportunity to go with Wyatt sometime. I know what you mean about traveling alone. I use to be the same way but now I don't mind it all. I guess all the traveling I did with Arbonne helped! I don't mind it all. I will be going to Chicago in April to spend Easter with Wyatt. His girlfriend might go along. Wyatt will be driving to Des Moines when we meet up there. He drove his truck back to Chicago. He hates driving in Chicago so hopefully he doesn't go there much. I worry about him going there. Travis and Girlfriend did NOT get back together. She has hooked up with another guy. I think she has had 3 guys now since they brokeup in October. I think she was not ready to settle down. She just turned 20. Travis is just now getting over the breakup and hopes to find someone soon. How is your mom doing? I do hope she has a full recovery from her cancer. The Navy Lady you told me sounds very nice and caring. Thats great she was there for Kyle. I hope he is feeling better now. It's so hard when they get sick and are so far away from home and we can't take of them. Ohhhhhhhhhh, Tanning....I love to tan. It's so relaxing. I use to tan but haven't for quite awhile. Well, I need to go start up the grill for lunch so will close here for now. Take care and hope to hear from you soon!
