Beth-our school district teased us with the whole week off at Thanksgiving for 2 years. Then they took it back this year so we are in school Monday and until 1:30 on Tuesday. It really seems senseless since we are in a military community and some ...

We made it to the Thanksgiving week! We had no bad weather days (due to hurricanes or tropical storms) so we have the whole week off! I feel bad for my fellow teachers who have to corral the energy of excited kids Mon.-Wed. Have fun baking and lo...

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
I have no choice but to let go.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Josh PIR'ed on Sept. 26th and has been in Monterey CA ever since He's learning Arabic so he'll be there til March, 2010. Quite a long A school I know. At least they have beautiful weather! We've been living here in Warrington for over 11 years now. 5 years in Jersey before moving here. Before that, Ohio which is where we were all born and my husband and I grew up.What is your son doing in the Navy. Josh will be a linguist when he's done with the education part.

Hi...I came across your name on one of the sites. Where, in his Navy carreer, is your son? Is he at bootcamp now? My son Josh left for bootcamp last July and PIR'ed end of Sept. He's been at the defense language institute in Monterey CA since then. CTI school. Oh, what caught my attention is that you're from Hatboro. We live in Warrington.

I can see why he didn't like it going from Ryan to UM. 9th grade is a tough year to switch. But, I'm glad to hear Casey loves it! My youngest is a sophmore at Roman, and my daughter is a senior at Hallahan. WOO HOO!
Sean went to Carroll, but ended up graduating from CBWest. (LONG STORY)
My oldest, who is 22 graduated from Carroll and is an Ironworker.
We lived in Roxborough for 10 years, but moved to S. Philly three years ago.
OMG - is right!

Stephanie: Cool that your family has so many connections through teaching. Believe me, I'm not a very experienced Navy Mom. Our son has been "in" about 18 months. His training has been extensive so he hasn't made out to the fleet yet. He talks sometimes like he's a "lifer". We'll see. My husband served in the Coast Guard so he knows a lot of the lingo and that helps me a lot. I have been teaching 16 years in the school district that serves the Orlando area. I have my grades 1-6 certificate, ESOL certification, National Board Cert. in Mid. Childhood Generalist. I am working on my Reading Endorsement. 11 weeks to go on the second to last requirement! I am currently the Reading First coach for a bilingual elementary school. I teach a fifth grade intervention group an a third grade tutoring group. Otherwise I'm supposed to be working more with teachers. Who knows what next year will bring? The Reading First grant winds down next year in FL. Funding for positions like mine could totally dry up. About 7 times while Garrett was there . It's a nice base. Open. Newer buildings. Right on the Gulf of Mex. with fantastic views. What will your son be training for??? Beth

Saw your post on N4M teacher site. I'd love to know more about the history of the teachers in your family. My great-grandmother was a governess in Luxembourg in the late 1800's. No one taught until my generation, but there are lots of us from CA to FL. I am taking a reading endorsement class and tutoring after school. I have hours of school work I am about to start, but I am dragging my feet getting going. This website is a great distraction... Beth

Hi Stephaine!
Yes its been wonderful to be able to talk to him more on the phone. But at the same time its still hard because I want to be with him. I'm learning to cope a lot better now. I hope all is well with you and your son!
