One of my brides (I was a wedding planner) is an elementary school teacher and her class is going to write letters for our guys! I save her Campbell's soup labels for education too. She teaches at the school my sailors went to!

As a group, we would like to adopt a group of sailors and send letters and/or packages. I think we N4M could make a big difference in some sailors lives if all of us would just write one letter (you can do more if you want)

MalaMama, go here http://www.navyformoms.com/group/masweshiplove and join the group. That will give you the address of this month's adoption. We keep it private so we don't run the risk of it getting into the "wrong" hands. GREAT JOB!

Steve reaches his year mark this week, and I wanted to write this witty, funny blog. I wanted to recap all this Navy "Stuff". Things I learned and unlearned. Having come onto this site just days after it hit the net, I wanted to thank the amazing, strong women I have grown to love, who walk through this journey together. But I am stumped.

so thank you ladies, (you know who you are) it is an honor to grow up with you :P

Maybe I didn't solve any of the world's problems today
but I did try to conduct my life in such a way That I did not add to them.
If I should come out ahead at the end of this game called Life
It won't be because of my fancy style or that I knew how to play it so well But more because I just kept getting up and plodding along
Till the world finally just got tired of knocking me down.
If it's just a game that we play before we leave this earth for the Heavens above, then surely the one who wins is the one who learns how to have a life full of living and a Heart full of Love. For you just can't empty a Heart full of Love.

Liberty’s Call
by Roger W Hancock

American flag flies so proud,
flying free, reminding all.
Enjoy American freedom,

financed by liberty’s price.
Sacrifice of founding fathers;
casualties of men today.
Men in military serve,
maintaining freedom, you enjoy.
Assignment matters not at all,
whatever service, duty calls.
Danger within the fire-fight,
or support of those who do.
Women sign to serve as well,
nurturing our liberties.
Families of those who serve,
pay a price in fear and dread.
Enjoy today the liberty,
guardianship of those who serve.
American flag flying proud,
freely prompting liberty’s call.

Please be gentle with yourself and others.

We are all children of chance,

And none can say why some fields blossom

While others lay brown beneath the harvest sun.

Take hope that your season will come.

Share the joy of those whose season is at hand.

Care for those around you.

Look past your differences.

Their dreams are no less than yours,

Their choices in life no more easily made.

And give.

Give in any way you can.

Give in every way you can.

Give whatever you possess.

Give from your heart.

To give is to love.

To withhold is to wither.

Care less for the size of your harvest

than for how it is shared,

And your life will have meaning

And your heart will have peace

You always hear the usual stories of pennies on the sidewalk being good luck, gifts from angels, etc. This is the first time I've ever heard this twist on the story. Gives you something to think about.

Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the husband's employer's home. My friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend.. The boss was very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than her house.
The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live... The husband's employer was quite generous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again, so was enjoying herself immensely..

As the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her husband.. He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for a long, silent moment..

Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped, and a few cigarette butts Still silent, the man reached down and picked
up the penny.

He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure. How absurd! What need did this man have for a single penny? Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up?

Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her. Finally, she could stand it no longer. She casually mentioned that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found had been of some value..

A smile crept across the man's face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had seen many pennies before! What was the point of this?

"Look at it." He said. "Read what it says.." She read the words " United States of America "
"No, not that; read further."
"One cent?" "No, keep reading."
"In God we Trust ?" "Yes!" "And?"
"And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription. It is
written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment.. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God's way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful!

When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change. I read the words, "In God We Trust ," and had to laugh. Yes, God, I get the message.

It seems that I have been finding an inordinate number of pennies in the last few months, but then, pennies are plentiful! And, God is patient..

Dear Shell,
How are you doing? How's your temperatures where you live? Ours have been escalating! UGH! I keep asking if it's Fall yet? HAHAH!

The first day with the hearing aide, was really adjusting to it. I did good yesterday and today. My husband and I went out to dinner, I didn't have to ask him to repeat anything.HAHA!

I asked my older daughter and my girlfriend to call me. I was able to hear them. I left a message for Kim to call.

TV I can hear a little. I'm still playing with the volume control on the hearing aide. This is all so exciting, being able to hear more things. Still can't hear the birds sing in the early morning yet.

So how is everything on your side of the map? HAHA!

Oh let me ask you. One Boot Camp mom informed me that she found out that the graduation packages are discontinued. That the moms have to download their passes for graduation. What web stie they down load from, I don't know. I have checked on several Navy web site, but I can't find an e-mial address to write to confirm this.
Do you know anything about this.?

I'll let you get going. STay cool if you can,
Take care and God bless,
Barbara

Dear Shell,
My long lost friend, I missed you! What a wonderful surprise about Steve homing home. How's he doing?

I'm doing good, can't complain. I have some nice things coming up for me. Next Friday, I'm expecting to have a hearing aide for my left ear! HAhA! It'll be so nice to hear again. Also, My right ear is being evaluated for a hearing device implant. So I'm all excited over this. I've been deaf to hard of hearing for two years now, so this is exciting for me.

Kim has been doing good. Her ship is doing another test run cruise this week. She said she might drive home for Labor Day weekend.

I'll let you get going. I'm so glad you popped in to say "hi"! HAHA! It's always good to hear from you.

Take care and God bless,
Your friend,
Barbara

Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings. Thank you, Lord, that I can hear. There are many who are deaf.

Even though I keep my eyes closed against the morning light as long as possible. Thank you, Lord , that I can see. Many are blind.

Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising. Thank you, Lord, that I have the strength to rise. There are many who are bedridden.

Even though the first hour of my day is hectic, when socks are lost, toast is burned, tempers are short, and my children are so loud.

Thank you, Lord, for my family. There are many who are lonely.

Even though our breakfast table never looks like the picture in magazines and the menu is at times unbalanced.

Thank you, Lord, for the food we have. There are many who are hungry.

Even though the routine of my job often is monotonous.. Thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to work. There are many who have no job.

Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to day and wish my circumstances were not so modest.

Thank you, Lord, for life.
