My son wants to get a car also. Nothing fancy, but dependable. Can anyone recommend a dealership, etc. that is reputable and maybe gives a military discount? Josie Cat: do you have a number for the USAA insurance company? Also, do they register the…

Sue,

Sorry you haven't heard from me since we had lunch, I truly have been painting everything still AND we had part of our carpet installed. Today I have the guy doing our foyer (the part I can't do myself)... so I had a minute to get online and catch up with Navyformoms.

I enjoyed meeting you, I hope we do get the opportunity to have lunch again. Of course it won't be Fridays... ha ha. How is your son doing, now that he has been in Lemoore for a while?

My son is back in Lemoore, the squadron flew in last weekend. Here is a link to the news story about the fly-in. Jeff and his wife are in the news video.

We will be heading to Lemoore at the end of August if you need anything.

Hi Sue got your message, that is my home number. I just got home from grocery shopping at Meijers a little while ago, so I will touch base with you tomorrow, since it is so late. I usually forward calls, but my husband was home so I didn't. Then he walked the dog, so that's why you didn't get us. Talk to you soon — Patti

Sue Monday might be better so I'm not rushing off. I know you have to go back to work, but if we eat in your building you won't have to rush too far and you wouldn't have to go to lunch too early.

Sue, I have a hair appointment at 1 pm, at Wattles & John R on Tuesday. What time do you usually have lunch?

Sue, I would love to meet you for lunch one day. Lunch is better for me than dinner. I'm off on Monday's and Tuesday's and on Friday's I work until about 1 pm (depending on how big the paper is, that's when we go to press) This week, I'm painting a bedroom, but if Monday or Tuesday next week works for you, I could meet you at your building! I will email you my phone number through the Navy for Mom's email.

I don't think she is on a ship. Her last "mission" all she could tell me was that she was in a trailer somewhere but she couldn't say where. She was very sick when she came back and said she was sick the whole time she was gone. It was only for a couple of weeks that time. We're hoping this will be the same. And no, she has no contact with anyone while she is gone. I'm sure she will contact my son the moment she is back.

Their bases are only a 3 hour drive apart. Sometimes my son heads to Oklahoma for the weekend but most of the time she goes to Texas because her family is also in Texas. It seems to work for them. She is deployed right now so they are really missing each other. And it doesn't help that he doesn't have any idea where she is. We will just pray for her safe return.

Hi Sue, I guess they just kept crossing each others paths during boot camp. Then they both were on hold in Ship 17 awaiting A-school. When their paths crossed again there, she asked him if he was stalking her. He said yes because he thought she was cute. While on hold, they had weekend liberties and usually hung out at the mall together. The rest is as they say "history". :)

I have to come back Sat night. 2 of us will be driving together, and you're welcome to join us. The event posting will say how many are attending so far.

Sue,
Lemoore is hot, dry and dusty in the summer, temperatures last week were in the 80's-90's, but they have already hit 100° a ccouple of. In the winter it's foggy. (that has to do with the Santa Ana winds). We have beeen there in the summer when it was 114°.

Besides NAS Lemoore, it's a farming community (Cotton, dairy, fruit & nuts, tomatoes, strawberries, blueberries etc). I would probably describe their downtown area as no bigger than Oxford, Mi or Lake Orion. There is a Kmart and a Savemart (grocery store). The base is huge and I would think your son will need a car to get around. My son lives off base, I'm not sure what on base transportation they have and other than taxi's I haven't noticed any other public transportation.

The next largest town is Hanford. A little larger community with a downtown area maybe the size of Ferndale, Mi. Every Thursday eve they have a street market and in the summer there is music. My son rented a house there when he first went to NAS Lemoore 3 years ago. Hanford has the WalMart, Target, Lowes, Home Depot and a small mall with a JC Penney. Some good restaurants there too.

Lemoore is about a half hour from Fresno, which is where we usually fly in to. That is where the "Mall" is with Macy's.

Other areas to visit are Paso Robles, which is a wine area. Very nice, just smaller than Napa or Sonoma. North of Fresno is Yosemite National Park, which is beautiful! And in the winter they snowboard in the Sierra Mountains. Most people out there have 4 wheel or all wheel drive. And if they go to the Sierra's they put chains on their tires.

Car dealerships are in Hanford and Visalia and Fresno. I don't think there is any in Lemoore, I don't remember seeing any. Best time to buy a car is coming off of deployment. Major discounts for military.

You should go to google maps and look up Lemoore, Ca. and look at it online. The people we've met are really nice. Most of the families are military current or retired. There is a lot of building going on there, some very nice houses. And there are some nice homes that are in foreclosure too.

Once he gets settled in, you should take a trip out there -

I don't know if we are going to make it to Frankenmuth. But you live close enough to me that I would love to meet up with you sometime to fill you in on life in Lemoore. Since you've worked in Troy... you might be familiar with the Troy-Somerset Gazette Newspaper (the little one that you pick up in office buildings and restaurants) That's where I work, part time.
