I'm okay with cancelling too. I did talk to my daughter about it and suggested that if the get together was cancelled her and I could still have a good mother/daughter day. She was all for that too. We want to see the movie Where the Wild Things A...

I'd like to still come. I could use a fun day. With weekly chemo starting on Nov. 13 it would be good for me. How do you feel about it Jill?

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Be supportive. Remember to tell him how proud I am of him. Tell him often that I love him. Keep in contact with him as often as possible. Encourage him to achieve his goals. He is a real asset to the Navy and he will be very successful!!!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Hi Susan, yes I have heard from Mike as well. I know that he went to a church for Thanksgiving last year that hold a dinner for vets, not sure if that is the same thing though, he went with some friends of his. Mike has not be able to get his dolphins yet since the boat has been in dry dock for most of the past year. It is really hard to do most of the requirements while in dry dock I'm told. I will keep in touch and yes it is really nice to have some one to talk with that has a son on the same boat.

Hi Susan! Yes, too bad about this Sunday--turns out I am scheduled to work all weekend (and probably until after the holidays). But we will all get together at some point.

Taxol: I didn't have the nausea and immediate problems like with the Adriamycin and Cytoxin. I recall feeling fine for 2 or 3 days after chemo, then the fatigue and joint aches set in. I spent a lot of time on my couch snuggling under a down "throw". Hot tea and pain pills were my diet for awhile.

Just keep telling yourself that things will get better (because they will!). And I will say some extra prayers for you. By the way, I bought a bag of those big sourdough pretzels at the store the other day, thinking of you! Enjoy "Where the Wild Things are"!

Hi Susan, I am glad to hear your son is happy with his decision to stay in Groton. I think Derek will be also. We live two hours away in MA. He comes home most weekends to see his girlfriend and friends. He's made a lot of friends in Groton. He also is staying out of trouble in Groton. He is also a Sonar Tech. That sure is a tough program. He is very determined and motivated. He really enjoys what he is doing and it shows. And sometimes when he comes home for the weekend, I actually get to see him for more than a few minutes. After he graduates in Dec., we are going to FLA as a family. We can't wait. Disney here we come. It's going to be crazy busy. Everybody goes to FLA for Christmas. We are coming home on the 22nd. So we'll be home for Christmas. I think Derek has 10 days off. I'm not sure. But he will be home for Disney and Christmas. I can't wait until he gets his first leave. But I shouldn't complain. At least I get to see him some weekends. Most families don't. Talk to you later.

Hi Susan, my son is very serious and stays out of trouble also. Must be a sonar tech thing lol. He did say anything about your son just that he had he thought that he had met him. Yeah, having a short trip out for your first one is nice I hear. Micheal met up with the boat in Hawaii to then come back to Groton through the Panama Canal for his first trip out. He took photos, which turned out great so make sure he takes his camera.

My son would come home if he could but he just can't. He will be preoccupied for the next month. Hey, he hangs on when things are tuff and he expects me to do the same. I know he would come home if he could. Truthfully the thing that is a bummer besides being sick is not being able to finish my bet and get my tattoo with him. He knows I hate them. However it was Valcarie and that is my motto. Good luck with your battle.

Yes there is only one USS Providence. It is the mighty warrior of the sea. My comment was a joke because my son never, ever gets leave. He couldn't even come home for the start of my radiation. He and his buddies joke that they don't even ask for leave because the answer is going to be no. If your son has his fish then yea. If he doesn't tell him to hurry up and get them so that these other guys can get leave.

Your son is on The Providence and got leave? Must be a different boat. Not to many people are getting leave on the USS Providence these days.

hi Susan, my son Derek is hoping to stay in Groton after his graduation from A school on Dec 10th. He is a Sonar Tech. He loves it. I hope he does stay in Groton, as we are from MA.

Hi Susan, I asked my son if he had me your son also and he had. Micheal, or Mike as he goes by, tells me that if I write small emails they group them together into one before they give them to him, so that it is best if I write one larger one. You are not able to send attachments or anything like that. Don't be surprised if you get an email that your email has been changed in order to send it. It is just the format that it has to change in order for the sub to receive it. I know that there is a web site that has all the restriction and info on it but can't think of where it is. It has been so long since they have gone out that its gona be hard to get use to it again. The sub was in dry dock for so long that I got use to him being in port all the time. I hope this helps.

Hi Susan, yes we have been back to Groton a couple of times for a visit the last time was in July in fact. Micheal lives on base as well. He has a roommate that is on a different boat however. He called me this afternoon to let me know that they were back in port.
