About me:
I am a proud mom of a wonderful daughter who has enlisted into the USN under the delayed entry program. She arrived at Boot Camp on 07/14/09!

I am a surgical nurse by trade.
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
That I will have to let her learn to make her own decisions from now on. Or should I say?.....I will have to let the U.S. Navy make decisions for her from now on!!!! :-)
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Thank You Dear Friends!

Thank You Dear Friends for all of your feedback and advice regarding my concern over my daughter and the change that has taken place in her sweet life over the past 9 weeks! I agree with you all and will take all of your great advice! The "change" that I have seen in her was not really BAD, just different! Her Father and I are both so very proud of her and she knows it!.....She did venture out to Six Flags with some buddies on Sun. after we left, so that is a Good Sign already for sure!......God… Continue

Concerned about New Grad.!

My daughter PIR'd on 11Sept.09! YEA! Her father and I went to this wonderful event! I am concerned about the major change in her. I expected some change, but not this much. Prior to leaving for BC she was very confident, outspoken, and witty. Now, though post PIR she was very emotional and tearful all weekend! She appeared so meek, very apologetic (about everything), self conscious, nervous, and awkward when we went out in public. She didn't want to really talk much about anything either. We wen… Continue

Hi Suzanne, I am so jealous...it was 37 degrees outside this morning with frost on my car...brrrrr. You would think by this time in my life I would be used to it, have only ever lived in NE... guess its the shutting out the world (as in closing windows and doors) that I dont like. Send us some warm! Thanks for the pic. Kathy

So Suzanne, how are you doing? You daughter looks a lot like you...very pretty. Was just checking up on you. Your daughter will come back around after a while. They are so used to being told everything to do in BC that they forget how to act. But they do "unthaw" especially when they get away for a day or two. Once they get some time in A School, they will figure out that the world is theirs to live, as long as the Navy agrees. Just remind her that to stay away from the alcohol and higher ranking "dates". My son is now in SanDiego, CA doing dental and awaiting FMTB Oct 13. He's getting excited. So am I. Well, have a great weekend. Was thinking of you ... Ruth

I read your blog and wanted to contact you. My son PIR'd last April and my husband and I found the same thing with the weekend we spent with our son. It didi get better after a few months out of boot camp, I think that they are so brocken down and built back up to "Navy life" that the "outside" is very different and they have a hard time adjusting back into the "norm". Keep in contact with her and see how she is doing in a while. I wish you all the best!

Hi Suzanne, I'm a friend and fellow Corpsman Mom of Ruth VH's. I wanted you to know that I left a comment on BC Moms in response to the intense discussion that was going on. (Ruth gave me the heads up as I'm a former mentor Mom), please feel free to go back to 8/22 and read it if you haven't already. Not having ever received flak for anything I've said (and believe me, I've written a LOT on site!) I can't say I know how you feel, but I'm sure you were taken aback by the strong response to your question and are a bit gunshy now! Understandable if so, but I do hope that you intend to take the "damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead" approach and remain fully engaged in discussions around here. We are all entitled to our opinions as long as they are voiced with respect. :-)

Some Moms here are more tender (especially newbies just starting the journey-I spend much of my time helping DEPpers though the initial Navy maze and "launching" transition), others are tough as nails and just tell it like it is. (There's a few of those on our Corpsmen Group for sure) Discussions can easily get emotional, personal and offtrack as Moms are passionate people and women can tend to be emotional and sometimes catty. I've learned where and when to duck or just not engage and/or hold my comments. We all have different life circumstances and backgrounds that color how we process our experiences and should never take anything too personally-unless we are directly attacked. We are all here for info and support, some need it more deeply than others, but we should never judge each other or feel judged for sharing our unique stories and perspectives!

You are obviously very proud of your amazing daughter and are excited about the journey ahead for her. =) That's great and as it should be. She needs you to be here, making friends and connections, learning about the Sailor experience, it will benefit her in the long run. Drop in anytime with questions or to say "hey" :) Take care. God Bless!

Suzanne, regarding my discussion you commented on...you wouldn't believe the flack I took for that! ! Not positive either! So I hope you don't feel alone being one that said what some people think was wrong. Tah, Tah.
