Hi Judy, My husband was a SEAL for 6 years and reservist after that. We have many great friends that have made it a career, both enlisted and officer. Sounds like your son has the right mindset to make it!!

Profile Information

About me:
I am the wife of a former Navy SEAL. During the past 10 years my husband has mentored many young men who are now active duty SEALs. These young men really become a part of our family, sometimes starting as young as 13 years old. This is a way for both my husband, and me, to give back to Naval Special Warfare for all they gave to us. We are so proud of each and every one of them. They are truly the future of our nation, and I am honored to be a part of their lives.
I am here to support or represent my:

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
The most important thing I learned from the Navy was to understand the greater need of our country. We are enjoying freedom today due to the dedication and sacrifices of the men and women of the armed forces of years past. I learned to be more patient and understanding of the schedules and demands of the job. But, most importantly, I learned to be self sufficient, independent, resourceful, and FLEXIBLE!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Hi Suzanne. thanks for coming on board to help everyone out on their journeys! We have a family friend who is a retired vietnam era SEAL, he has really taken our son under wing and his mentorship and encouragement has been invaluable. We laugh because when they started going to the gym together, he could actually hold his own pretty well with our then 20 year old former top HS althete, and our friend is 62! My son said one day they were watching the seniors class swimming in the pool while waiting for their turn and he started chuckling as our SEAL friend was making funny remarks about "old people"; my son had to point out that some in the pool were probably younger than him! LOL Our friend now proudly points out that our son has more than passed him up and all is as it should be. :)

BTW: I saw your great note to Katie and wanted to let you know that food and packages are no longer allowed in BC. We encourage our Moms to write LOTS of letters, everyday if possible. Everything should be in a plain, regular sized envelopes. Nothing that should draw attention to your Recruit (doodles, stickers etc), cards are ok, just NOT musical cards. The packages have to be saved for "A" schools, however, I'm not up on the rules and regs for Pre Buds and Coronado. Thought you should know. :) THANK YOU for your husbands service and for the way you both are reaching out to to others now! Take care and welcome aboard N4Ms. :-)

Thank you very much for the information. It's very helpful to know where he'll be - at least the first few months. He's been working out for over a year in preparation for the next phase of his life and spends all of his free time with other SEALs or candidates doing physical workouts and socializing together. He's already made some great friends and started weaving a solid support group.

Hello Suzanne, My son is also a SEAL candidate. He is waiting to leave for bootcamp, which should be within the next 2 to 3 months. Maybe you can answer a couple of my questions. When a SEAL candidate goes to bootcamp is it regular camp or do they do something different? What about corresponding with my son during bootcamp - is it better for him for me to send letters and packages or to let him concentrate on his job without distractions? Thank you for your time and knowledge. Katie Glass
