Yes, she has met a boy there on the ship. They got Christmas pictures done together yesterday...(what's up with that??) They have only been dating for like three months. She had quite a few really bad weeks when she first got there so I am really relieved. To top it off she found out yesterday that she passed her Petty Officer exam. She is just so happy right now. We are counting down the days until she comes home. I know the time she is here will go by so fast. Have you sent your Christmas package yet? I am still back and forth as to whether to send one to Ashley or not. She won't be here for Christmas and I don't want her to feel left out because everyone will be getting packages and she will not. I guess I better get on it if Im going to.. huh? I will look you up on facebook. Take care & I will talk to you soon. Dana

Ashley was cooking for the first time and had a bunch of her friends over to her house for Thanksgiving. (She has moved off the ship into a house with three other sailors) They had liberty from Thursday thru Sunday so I am sure Ashley and Derek were both enjoying their time off. I did hear from her Thursday night regarding presents for her sisters while she was out shopping during her "black friday". She has a new boyfriend so I think Ive been moved down on her priority list. :(..Oh well, at least she seems happier these days so I really can't complain. She is due home Dec 29th. I just can't wait. I just love the sticky note idea. I saw that Derek has a facebook account. Do you also have an account? Talk to you soon. Dana

Yay!! I am so happy for you that you got a call. I have verizon service and in order for me to call her I have to pay an additional charge each month plus like 35 cents per minute and it just seemed too expensive. I have added international calling to my home number. Its like 4.99 per month plus like 10 cents per minute. To me that is still expensive but I wanted the option to call her if I really needed to. She tells me that her plan includes unlimited minutes to the states so I email her and just wait for her to call me. She does call pretty regularly though so it hasn't really been an issue yet. Her cell plan only includes call which are made from Japan though so I don't get any calls unless she is "home" or she uses the sim cards that she purchases in each country.

Good morning; Ashley will be sharing an apartment when they return to base so she has asked for money to buy a tv for her room when she gets back to japan. I spoke with her this morning and told her we were talking about what to get Derek for Christmas. She says that she will fish around a little and to see if she could find out what he may want or need. You should be proud of him. Every time I bring him up she says how well liked he is, what a good guy he is and that he works hard all the time. :) You did good!!

Ashley will be coming home for Christmas!! I know that they are headed back to Sasebo today. They will be "home" until sometime in January. I send her packages all the time using the flat rate postal boxes.($11.95) I fill them completely full!! I send anything from home made goodies to personal care items. In this last box I sent long johns, magazines, hand warmers, home made goodies, mints, gum, chapstick, etc. I bet you could send just about anything and he will be happy to receive it. :)

Good morning,
They left the Philippines on Thursday morning (Wed night for us) They did get delayed because of some bad weather but I think they were already gone when this last typhoon came in. I didnt go to work on Friday and she writes my email at work if I don't remind her. She told me that they were not going into their next country they would just be anchored off the coast. I believe that is somewhere around korea if I remember correctly. I am not sure how long they are expected to be there. I did instant message with her "boyfriend" yesterday morning and he says the weather was cooler where they are now. I thought they were going to get a chance to visit hong kong on this tour. How exciting...we will have to wait and see. I will ask her for an update on Derek the next time I talk to her. Don't worry..she is always positive on how he is doing. Good morning; Ashley called this morning at 3am...but its all good.
We talked for about a half hour before we got disconnected. They are in the Philippines. She says that she really likes it there. I think because it is cheap and she loves to spend. She is a blond and she gets alot of attention there because there are no blonds. She says they wave, wink, and want to take pictures of her. She says... "they love me". haha. Anyway, I asked about Derek. She said that cheif calls him hillbilly. He works very hard and he does have a lot of friends that he hangs out with. He does say "I miss America" often though. Have a good weekend. I will update again soon. Dana

I heard from Ashley Saturday morning. They were still sitting in the ocean just off the coast waiting for a final decision to go in and help with flooding. She said that the storms the night before had really pushed them around terrible. Alot of people on board were sea sick. They had to try and anchor three different times because every time they dropped the anchor they were still being pushed around by the waves . At one point she woke up almost completely on the wall of her rack. They have been out to sea with 600 marines (250 extra) on board with no liberty. Everyone was getting a little aggrevated about when they might be getting some liberty time. She was told that they would be moving which I believe happened either Sunday or Monday after lunch. (I am still having trouble with the time difference) She could not say where they were headed. I will keep you up to date as I hear from her.
