About me:
I'm a wife..a Mom...a hairdresser. Love to write poems and read for hobbies. Built a new house this past summer and we did most of the work ourselves which was a huge challenge and under taking. Enjoy anything to do with interior decorating.
I am here to support or represent my:
Child/Stepchild
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
That I needed to arm myself with information about not only the Navy but with the contry of Japan as she is stationed there for 2 years. .....so I had a better understanding of where she was...what her life was about....and could carry on a conversation with her that was based on knowledge.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Hi Tamera,
My daughter is a DC on the GW, she's been on the ship almost 2 years now. She finally has a room in the barracks at Yokosauka. She lived on the ship clear up until Jan of this year.

Hey Tamera, My son Ryan is AS on the USS Geo. Wash. He travels to Atsugi by bus to work there as well as on the ship. He works on the yellow equipment, what ever that means. I know his job is mostly mechanical and maintenance. He has adjusted to ship life slowly. He went to A-school in p-cola and loved it there.I live in Greensboro NC. I haven't seen my guy since MidDec and won't see him until Christmas. I'm OK if I don't dwell on it. Best all things to your daughter...

Thank you.. Yeah I do have the eagle one blown up and hanging on my wall. I took that last summer out on the river on a moving boat.

Hi Tamera! Nice to hear from you. Colin is doing OK, but I would never say he's loving Japan. He's basically in "adapt and overcome" mode all the time. lol I told him about your daughter, he said she's probably in the same BEQ as him since it's the only quarters for singles who are actually attached to the base. It's a small world, huh? He also added that AG's have a very important job, which I am sure you already know! :-) Talk to you soon!

Tamera, I really enjoyed your post on Japan Moms, and appreciate your comment about the job my son does. I am very proud of him and the man he is becoming. I confess to not knowing what an AG was, so I googled it, and WOW. That is fascinating job to me, as I love weather! Your daughter is obviously quite a special young lady and I enjoyed reading about her on your page here. :-) BZ!!

Wow, congratulations to Nicole and you on her Sailor of the Quarter award!! So our girls are on sister bases, how cute! Nicole should be very proud of her accomplishments. Sorry that the guys are giving her flack. Does she say what she does to deflect this problem? Thankfully, they have been blessed with so many new opportunities that we did not have. And more importantly, thankfully they took advantage of those opportunities when they came around.

Blessings

Hi Tamera- My name is Jody and I live in Rockford, just around the corner!! My son is in about the same part of the world as Nicole-- he's in Guam as part of a 2 plus year assignment. He has been in the Navy since Feb 2007, and I'm sure will be making a career of it! He is a Master at Arms, which is security/police.
So does Nicole like Japan? Do you think you will venture over there at some point for a visit? I hear more and more of Moms with sailors in Japan on this site just in the chat room.
I see you are a member of Mich Moms group, there is a get together planned in Frankenmuth in June to meet other Navy families. We are planning on being there.
Have a great day, and if you find yourself on this website a lot, there is even a group for those of us who are "addicted" to it.... Jody

Thanks Tamara for sharing the process that the Navy uses to acclimate the sailors to the new place and culture. Wow, a Mt. Fuji climb sounds so adventurous and like a once in a lifetime experience. These young ladies of our are really something arent they?!

Hi Tamera, thank you. There's another mom whose daughter is a forecaster down in MS. How does Nicole like the lifestyle in Japan? Her job guiding pilots in sounds very serious and fulfilling and she's pursuing her degrees. Good for her! Best wishes in whatever choice she makes in her next phase.

32 yo is not old ... as we both know. lol She's just getting warmed up! Tip: check out groups and type in her job or community and you'll find more specific sub-groups to hang out in!!
