Got my box today! Will call the recruiters on Monday to get his address!
yesterday
Not yet, Janet. Hopin to get my box today since it seems like many of you did. At work right now, but when I get home I'll check the mail. If, not, I'll be calling the recruiter on Monday. :-)
yesterday
Karen, They very likely will be on the same ship. I was talking to one of his recruiters at MEPS and she said that everyone on the same flight usually ends up on the same Div., maybe same ship. Robert sounded tired but happy.
on Friday
Angie: Thanks! Yup, finally! What I heard, and I need to confirm, is that the last recruits shipping out were this week. No more until January! The huge amt of folks swearing in would indicate that this is the case.

Well, ladies, I admit to not being too active on this group. My son shipped out for Boot yesterday, so I will be leaving this group for now. But I wish you all Fair Winds and Following Seas.

The swearing in ceremony yesterday in Sacramento was HUGE!! About 30 for the Navy and another 21 for the Air Force. Anyone else have this?

Roll in and Ship Dates

Well, Robert has a new Rating as a Corpsman, and a new ship date of November 5, 2009. That is sooner than his original 12/15/09, but not soon enough for him! He is checking with his recruiter today to see if he can get a "Roll In" for this month. I should know something today, hopefully. He will miss Thanksgiving and Christmas at home with the new ship date, and even his 18th birthday (October) if he gets the Roll-in. <<>> So many changes!

He Did IT!

Well, all issues have been resolved! Robert went to MEPS yesterday (2/26/09) and finished his processing. He is now OFFICIALLY at DEPper! He ships out Dec 15, 2009, so Christmas will be a few days early at our house this year. After BC, he goes to Pensacola, FL for A-School for Cryptology Tech. He wanted to do Master at Arms, but his vivion wouldn't qualify him. He is excited and happy, and so am I. It took some doing, but he got it. I am very proud, to say the least!

More (possible) progress and changes

Well, the "toe issue" is making progress. The podiatrist Robert saw said he didn't see the need for surgery and recommended against it. He said he had seen worse on guys IN the military! Robert was disappointed, but he spoke to his recruiter who asked him to get a letter from this doc stating the same. The podiatrist obliged and Robert passed the letter to his recruiter who will submit it to the military's Medical Review Board to see if he can get a wiaver. So things are looking up! (OK, it HAS… Continue

Progress

Well, there is a little progress in our house. My Navy (almost) DEP son, Robert, has a podiatry appt to see about his foot in early Jan, and my (almost) Army son, James, passed his GED week before last. Woot! He is so happy, he can now get on with life!

Disappointment

Well, Robert had a big disappointment yesterday. He heard from his recruiter and did not get the medical waiver on his toe (Has a bunion, see blog posts below.) He still has options. We are calling his doctor today to see about a medical correction for the toe in question. His recruiter said, with correction he should be able to get passed. He is being very brave ("well, it's not the end of the world."), but I feel for him.

Hi Teri,
My son leaves 10/6 for BC and A school in Great Lakes for corpsmen. He told me once he is finished with A school that he would be going to camp pendelton (sp) in San Diego. I am confused now, will he be shipped out and be on the front line?

Thanks for the comment. My son, Nick completed FMTB and is assigned to a group of Marines. He's always loved helping people so being a corpsman is the best thing that he could have done. He loves his job and getting called "Doc" and gets plently of other training when his guys go out on maneuvers. He'll probably be deploying towards the end of the year, but he's handling it well. I of course am worried, but at least I know that he'll be prepared. Good luck with everything and if you have any questions about that field, let me know.

Hi Teri,

I see we're both in the single Navy moms group! Anyway, I read your post on what to gift a high school grad and I thought maybe a digital frame with photos of his family and friends uploaded on it for when he's away. Congratulations on your son's grad, mine is graduating too next month. Sherry
