Hi Tori, My son left for BC on the 7th also. I'd love to share this experience with someone who's going through the exact same thing at the same time. My son called at 1:00 on Tuesday morning to say that he made it there, and he thinks he will get a…
Hi Tori,
First of all, I'd to say best of luck to your son, he's got a long two hard, but very exciting months ahead of him! And best of luck to you as well, these months are not going to be easy as well, but when you see him finish bootcamp in two…
Tori, I had a big party....started it with Thanksgiving, then moved to Christmas, then to New Years and then a birthday cake and balloons because he turns 21 before PIR. It was AWESOME.
as for Christmas, send him one of those cards that you can rec…
Hi Tori,
My son also leaves Dec.7 . I don't think there is anything we can send them, besides lots of letters, but I plan on bringing him a gift at graduation.
Have a nice diner and just talk with her. You don't need to do anything fancy. She will remember the little things. She will be able to do the adventure things latter while she is in the USN, and it will be cheaper.
Get her a small cross or bible,…
Hi,
My son will also be in BC during the holidays. I asked if I could send him any thing and was given a resound NO. I can't get anything to him. I am planning on just writing and sending him letters from all of us which I hope he'll get around Chri…

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
To be more patient than I ever have been before. Waiting for news is the hardest.
When our son's belongings were shipped home, we noticed his travel documents said the airfare was "Air fare paid by CBA. Travel not authorized reimbursement". Does that mean our son is paying his airfare to boot camp, and the fare will be docked from his paycheck? Also, does that mean the box that was shipped Fed Ex will also be docked from his paycheck? Guess we thought the Navy was paying those expenses.....

Hi Tori: They go on Saturday and everything is in 'get ready' let's not forget. The cutest thing Owen said last night was that he was SURE that they would be gone for a week (pst Oma, isn't that called being deployed"). So, this is a kick in the pants. They will leave Saturday morning.~s
My son requested FMTB at Pendleton, as for the FMF I'm not sure if that was part of the request. I will ask him next time I talk to him. They have him doing office paperwork. He doesn't mind it for right now so he can get the lay of the place. He wants his Jeep out there so he can get off base on the weekends before class starts. I was a ASM & CC at different times in our troop. Tell your younger son, "Once a Eagle always a Eagle".
That was interesting to see that your son is a Eagle Scout and also will be a Corpsmen. My son too is a Eagle Scout and is a Corpsmen as of 1/30/09. He is presently at Camp Pendleton waiting to class up for the FMTB class in March. They say 1% of all boys that join Scouts end up earning there Eagle. Then you figure how many go on to become Navy Corpsmen has to be a very same group. My son said there where two other Eagles in his Basic class, but they where going into aviation electronics.
I wish your son all the best in the Corpsmen school and beyond.
Hi Tori,
Thanks any kind of response helps. I just got nervous, because when we left him on Sunday he was planning to go to Gurnee Mall and take a cab to Chicago. Not hearing after a few days makes me a nervous nellie. I did hear from him last night and he's all settled in. Keep in touch and good luck with your son.
I'm sorry you didn't come Thursday night - it was really fun! There were lots of people there, and it was great to talk to so many people!
The weekend went so quickly for us - with my family there as well as trying to pick up and take back Eric, it was really crazy! We hardly had any hanging out time - we did get to sit in the hot tub for awhile - but it was still great. Eric got watch at 3:30 yesterday afternoon, so we caught an earlier flight home. It was very hard to leave him again, but it should be easier in A school to communicate. He was suppose to start school on Monday, but now it isn't until the 25th of February - so who knows what they will get to do while they are waiting! Eric is headed to South Carolina - so at least it should be warmer there!
We went to church on base Sunday morning - it was really fun to get an insight as to what they do at boot camp. Eric really wanted to go, because all the time he went to church, he said he kept waiting to be the graduate with his parents in the balcony!
Let's keep in touch - it's been nice to talk with you!
Hi Tori! Just thought I would check in and see if you are coming to the Meet and Greet on Thursday night at Flanagan's. It is really near the base, so it shouldn't be hard to find! Would love to have you join us!
Hi Tori, thank you so much for that advice and for sharing your experience. I think I'd beter warn Greg of the possibilities just so he's aware and can possible prepare himself, I know I will never be prepared. Have a great day. Karen
Eric has twice mentioned the Division of Excellence - they are being held to some very high standards! My Eric has the responsiblity to make sure that everyone studies and learns what they are suposed to know. I t sort of makes me giggle - being responsible for studying was never one of his strengths! i would tell you that Eric was ready to settle down and get into the real world as I call it. I can tell by his letters that he is up to the challenge and I hear him grow stronger week by week. He does get discouraged from time to time, but I think that is part of the plan so that they learn how to handle that too.
Oh my gosh - I haven't even thought about what I would wear to PIR - I think those thoughts are stuck in limbo with battle stations! Eric did mention how great they all look in their dress blues - I guess I will need to think about what I look like too! I will probably be that crazy person running around at the last minute getting everything together!
Be sure to bring warm clothes - it looks like we will be lucky and it will be about 25 on Friday. Of course, the last weather report said there is a 40% chance of snow flurries! We have been so spoiled here in Denver - it was 70 today - tied a record! It is supposed to be close to that tomorrow. Unbelievable! We are all thinking we will end up paying for this in March.
It has been so nice to talk to you on this site - I can't wait to meet you in person!
