Patrick arrived at Little Creek last night. I haven't heard from him yet. I'm sure he's processing. His phone called me twice from his pocket so I did hear his voice for a half a second. He already knows he'll be in the barracks.

Hi Karen, Yes we'll be driving his car out hopefully the middle of March. Lots of people commented and said that a car would be a good idea in that area. I just hope the weather warms before we go. No more blizzards! Thanks, Valley

Valley,
I fell so spacey. I forgot that Whidbey Island is close where I am and the car will really help him if he wants transportation after he crosses on the farrie, other wise he is dependant on the bus system. Im sure he will really enjoy having it.

Valley, My son is on the Gunston Hall which is in the shipyards and has been since July 2008 for refurbishing. He said something the other night about the Whidbey Island also coming in for something in the yards. He bought a car out there and he says that sometimes it is nice to just get and drive to clear the cobwebs and ease the stress of the shipyard and it is fun to explore especially with a GPS. I agree with everyone else that it is definately no place to be walking. He too took his car from home when he first went there but when gas was close to that $3.00 mark he got a cheaper one and is glad he did. His crew is now in what he calls a barracks on the Little Creek base which is also a glorified hotel as they have maid service and such. He was supposed to be out of the shipyard in mid March but that date has been pushed back until mid April. The GHall was the first amphib to be totally overhauled and may be the last with this extensive of renovations as they are so far over budget it is totally scary. He is an engineman with Heating and Air Conditioning training. He left GL last April for San Diego for his C School and then went to the GHall. Take the car and enjoy your trip and visit with your sailor. It is almost 16 hours from southeast Kansas but straight across the country as the crow flies. Jeanine

I usually "greet" all new Texas moms - but I must have missed you. I got behind when the hurricanes hit our area this past fall.

Hi, Welcome to Navy for Mom’s. You will find lots of support, advice, information, and friends here!! All you have to do is read, read, read!!

I would like to invite you to join the group of moms from Texas!! We are the largest state group on this site!! (Everything is bigger in Texas - including Navy Moms)!! We reached 500 members on February 12, 2009.

Hi, just read your discussion about needing his car in Little Creek. My son was stationed in Dam Neck and is now in Portsmouth, VA. He does have his truck with him. He drove it back when he came home on leave the first time. He has been on a deployment (about three months) where he had to store the truck. He said there are facilities where they go out and start the vehicles once a week or so.
After visiting the area a couple of times, I would want a vehicle. My son did find rides using base vans and friends cars. Now, I know he gets weary of being the one with transportation.

Are you going to the Waco meet and greet on March 21? Have you goined Texas' Moms yet??

Glad to have you here!!!

I really miss Stephen too but he is so happy with his choices and his assignment to the Comfort and Bethesda that it is getting easier. My mom told me once to always take time for me and make a life outside of being my kids mom cause one day they would leave and I would be lost. Well, I tried to do that but obviously I didn't succeed because all three of our older children left home within a yr of each other and we just feel so lost sometimes. I think it is worse on me than my husband but we have both had to do some major adjustments. Each day brings us closer to appreciating our somewhat empty nest but I don't think we ever stop missing them.

Oh, and good luck to Patrick! He should really like Virginia Beach, especially in the summer!

Wow! What a long trip from Texas to Virginia Beach! We are only 3 1/2 hours from there so if Patrick ever gets in a bind and needs some help tell him to call Stephen's mom and we will come to the rescue. If he gets shipped out and needs to park his car somewhere and have someone crank it every once and a while we can offer a place for that too. I often wondered what the guys do about their cars when they ship out for 6 months. Stephen will only be 5 hrs from home so he can always bring his car home. As a matter of fact, tell Patrick that Stephen will be close to him in Baltimore Maryland at Bethesda Naval Hospital. I think you know Stephen's last name, I know that's what Patrick will know him by but can't post it here.

Stephen is doing great. Tired of the weather there in GL and anxious to move on but doing good. He is set to graduate corps school March 27 and is hoping for orders to Va as well. He would only be 4.5 hours from home if he gets it. Far enough away to be on his own but close enough for lots of visits from family and friends and it would be an easy drive home if he needed or wanted to get here. Good luck to Patrick! Stephen told me they hung out some a couple weekends ago. Good to hear from you.

Hi Valley,
My son Jared graduated from boot camp with Patrick and I believe he is going to school with him now. I was with Jared this past weekend and he mentioned a Patrick from boot camp and school a few times and a Patrick called him while I was with him. Jared mentioned that he hoped he would get stationed with someone he knows from boot camp. Jared is hoping to get on the USS New York which is supposed to commission in the near future. My sister lives about an 1 ½ from the base so my Mother and me left on Thursday night and on Friday we went and picked Jared up from the base, it was of course great to see Jared but I also enjoyed seeing the other side of the base where the school is located. I was so surprised to see a McDonald’s right across the street from his building. I am not sure how much school Jared has left but he is thinking he will be at G.L. until mid April so I am planning a couple more trips in the next couple months. I am anxious to find out where he will be stationed but also scared, right now he is only 6 hours away from me, when he gets his orders I know I will not be able to take a weekend road trip to see him. Ok I guess I am rambling on and on….guess I’m still on a high from seeing him this past weekend. - Lorie

Hi Valley-
What city is the Residence Inn you stayed at? Do you happen to have the number handy?
Thank you!
