Hi Virginia
Hope all is well with you and your family especially Sam. Where is she and what is she doing now?
Brian has been home twice now since his EOD graduation in June. This last time he had just finished up combat training and his E-5 test in Mississippi and drove home in his new Dodge truck he bought while he was down there, nice truck! I He left last Sunday for California, went through a snow storm in Colorado had to stop at Walmart and get a hoodie he didn't take any warm clothes with him, he didn't think he would need them. Got there safe on Tuesday. He will be there for a month and half and should be home the first week of November for a couple of weeks before going to Guam for 3yrs. That will be his home base but he will be deployed from there to Afgahanistan.
When he comes home we will combine Thanksgiving, his birthday which is Dec 3rd and Christmas all rolled into one.
I have a whole lot to do to get the house ready in a months time.
We just finished redoing my bedroom new hardwood floors and paint. We labored on Labor Day, it was well worth it tho. Next we are starting in what used to be my youngest son's room and that is going to be a small family room where Brian will stay when he gets home. I have to take up the old baseboards and door trim and then paint that shouldn't take to long. I really need to sand the hardwood floor and refinish it but I'm afraid to sand the floor myself, I hear it's not real easy thing to do. I not sure what I'm going to do about that yet.
I can't believe it's almost Oct! seems like we were just in Florida.
We weren't back 2 weeks and my daughter Michelle was in a bad car accident, she was joy riding with some guys and the driver went speeding around a curve to fast lost control hit a tree and flipped the car on it's left side. Michelle was sitting in the back seat behind the driver so she took the brunt of the impact. She ended up with a concussion and a ruptured disk in her lower back, and if that was not enough we found out she has a birth defect, it's call Chari malformation that's where the cerebellum that's part of the brain, sits to far into the spinal column. So needless to say most of our summer has been running back and forth to dr's and getting mri's she has had so much of that she almost glows in the dark lol. So far the dr wants her to go to pain management for the disk problem but I really don't believe in giving drugs to someone her age because the addiction rate in teenagers is so high and not only that but it's not going to cure her problem, she has already been to pt but they can't do anymore for her and she is facing possible surgery for the Chari to remove what they call tonsils on the cerebellum they cause pressure on the spinal cord.
The other 3 guys in the car weren't hurt just bruises no one was wearing a seat belt either, such stupid kids! they are just lucky to be alive. There was no alcohol or drugs thank God! just going 50 in a 25 around a curve.
You know the driver's parents or the driver didn't seem that concerned about it.
The kid had a new car with in a week. So that's been my summer!
I hope yours was better.
Has Sam been home lately? I think the last time I talked to you you were going or just got back from seeing her.
I'm sure your busy with all of the sports now that kids are back to school.
My youngest son Tom who will be 20 in November started playing softball this fall, so at least I get to see him play it's kinda of like old times when they were in baseball. I sure do miss those days even tho I was always going in 3 different directions at the same time. I don't know how I did it!
You will have to tell me whats going on at your end.
Blessings to you and your family,
Sandi

Hi Virginia: We left last Sunday very early, but not as early as I had planned, went to bed to late and figured I need more then just 2 hrs of sleep. We were on the road by 6:30am and got to the Base at 6pm LONG, LONG, drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and of course it rained most of the way there! We stayed on the Base, the rooms were nice very plain, but clean and cheap! We had a great time, the ceremony was very nice and not to long, they held it outside at their EOD memorial wall. They encouraged everyone to move around and take all the pictures you want to and they even posed with your graduate while they were handing out the certificates and pins It was really very special I'm so proud of Brian as well as the rest of the guys there. They really worked their butts off to get where they are now. Brain is now an E-4 petty officer. I met the parents of one of his friends they are from O'Fallon, Illinois he not only got his EOD award but he also re enlisted for another 4 yrs.and received a check for $90,000 for re enlisting. Boy was it was really HOT! down there and so humid. upper 90's every day and heat index over 100. We went to the beach a everyday and went to the armament museum, that was very interesting seeing all the bombs and airplanes that they used in the different wars. Really all Brian wanted to do was just hang out and watch tv he does not have reg tv in his room because everything is all cable and he can't afford another bill. so all he does is play computer games. He will be coming home on June 27th for 3 weeks then he goes back to pack his stuff and off to jump training. As it stands now he will be going to Guam by October for 3 yrs. Once he gets to Guam he will most likely be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. It's a shame about the Marine that got killed disarming that bomb. He was an EOD Tech, I am so afraid that something like that will happen to Brian, I don't know why he couldn't pick a safer job. We got home at 9pm on Wednesday to a very hot house found out the ac was not working, I borrowed a couple of window units for the bedrooms so at least we can sleep at night. I took lots of pictures, I will have to have Tom or Michelle post them I'm not that good at doing that. Hope all is well at your house and you are keeping cool. I guess you are busy with baseball, I know I sure was when both boys were playing, I really miss those days hectic as they were.
Take care I will talk to you later.
Blessings to you and your family

Hi Virginia
Just read your letter. Sounds like you have a lot going on.
We are leaving on Sunday for Florida for Brian's EOD graduation on Monday. I'm not looking forward to a 12 plus hour drive, But it will be good to see him even tho it's been less then a month since he was home.
He will be coming home on June 27th until July 17th then it's off to Fort Benning for jump training.
My daughter took 8th place for discus at the state track meet, It' was exciting to see her get that far.
I glad to hear Sam is doing so well.
I have to run for now need to get some sleep 4 am comes to early. Will write when we get back.
Blessing to you and your family.

Hi Virginia
How was your visit with Sam? Did you have a big home coming party for her? I bet she was glad to be home, and Mothers Day at that! You couldn't ask for anything better. I hope you had a nice weekend.
Brian was home this weekend, he was suppose to come in on Friday night but his flight got canceled because the plane broke down. He came in Saturday morning, but we couldn't be there to pick him up, I had to take my daughter to a track meet in Farmington Mo. She placed 4th at that meet so now it's off to Jefferson City for the state track meet on Saturday.
I had the whole day on Sunday to spend with Brian! It was great we didn't do anything but bar-b-que and watch tv. He doesn't get to watch tv in Florida because he doesn't want to pay for cable and thats the only thing they offer, besides he can't afford it anyway. He got stuck paying for an apartment that he can't live in, after this mess with the exfiancee he is still trying to get the ring back but she won't give it back. He is going to have to take her to court to get it back. This mess has cost him a ton of money. I just hope he learned something from all of this.
We will be going to Florida in June for his EOD graduation on the 16th. That's going to be a long drive. I 'm hoping he willing be coming back with us since he has over a month until he goes to Fort Beining Ga for jump training. Brian got his orders, he is going to be stationed in Guam for 3 yrs, but that's only his home base, he will be deployed either to Afghanstain or Iraq either way that's not good! I don't think he will go to Guam until the first of the year because he has more training to go through, and by the time he is finished with that it will be almost Christmas so I'm thinking that he will get to come for the holidays.
Have you done anymore on your house? We now have all of the interior doors up and a new ceiling fan in the living room. Still have to paint the doors and then do baseboards and trim. Progress is real slow. I would like to have the kitchen done by Christmas, but who knows, there's a lot do before that happens.
Hope all is well at your house.
I have a feeling that this summer is going to go by to fast. My daughter will be a senior in the fall, don't know where the time has gone, it's kinda scary to thing about it.
Have a good week.
Blessings to you and your family

Hi Virginia
So sorry to hear about your Kidney stone I hear they are real painful.I hope that you are feeling better. That must have been a very painful trip. I'm glad you got to go and I know that nothing would have stopped you from seeing Sam, I know I would have done the same thing. That's good that she is getting leave. Do you have any big plans for when she comes home? Brian will be coming home for Memorial Day I just hope I will get to see him for longer then an hour, but some how I doubt it. He just wants to hang out with his friends and to heck with the family. My daughter Michelle has a big track meet that weekend in Farmington, if she does well there she will get to go to the State meet in Jefferson City. I'm hoping that Brain will go to the Farmington meet because more then likely he will miss her high school graduation in June of 2010. and next yrs important track meets as well. All of my kids were big into track and that was real important to them and they would go to each others meets. Today she took first place in her event. She throws discus and shot. Brian was a thrower also, and Tom was runner and high jumper.
I haven't been doing much on the house, we are in limbo right now. I'm waiting for Tom to be out of college for the summer so he has more time to work on the house. His last day of school is May 8th, On the 13th we are suppose to put up all of the interior doors, he will have someone help him with that since none of these houses have straight walls. So that will be a start to the summer projects. We are doing the simple things first. Because when it comes to plumbing and bathrooms that will have to be done by a professional, we can do everything up to that point. I will just have someone come in and put the new faucets in, that's going to cost so much as it is. We do a piece at a time. It just takes forever!!
I forgot what you said Sam's job is. Why is it these kids have to pick the most dangerous jobs they have. They must like living on the edge, and giving their parents gray hair. LOL!!!!!
I just hope the next girlfriend Brian has is someone who is mature enough to support him in his career choices. He is to young and busy to worry about girlfriends and getting married.
You take care.

Thanks - I hope to get there some day. Cait wasn't thrilled about being assigned there, she wanted sea duty, but seems to like it now. It would be fun if your daughter ended up there as well. Cait likes the people she works with.

Hi Virginia
How is Sam doing? And the rest of your family.
I feel so out of touch I haven't been on this site for so long. My computer was being up dated. It's amazing how you become so attached to these things.
Hope all is well with you. I just talked to Brian and he told me he has his orders He will be in unit 5 and going to Guam for 3 yrs!! I had no idea he would be stationed overseas for so long a time. Of course that is only his home base he will be shipped off the to Iraq or one of the sand pits. Well he won't being going for awhile, he has to graduate EOD which is some time in July and then he has jump training and then out to California for more training by then it should be close to the holidays and hopefully he will come home for Christmas.
Brian and his fiancee broke up On New Years day, got back together a month later and they were going to get married in Florida at the end of March and a week before she was suppose to go down there she decided that she didn't want to get married, and he was left stuck paying for an apartment that he can't get out of the lease. He can't even use the apartment because he has to stay on base. Talk about an expensive lesson. That girl has cost him at least $8,000 with the ring and all which he hasn't gotten back yet and probably won't. He wants to come home for Memorial Day but he isn't sure if he can. Everything is up in the air right now. He is into some real heavy duty training right now, he dives everyday to disarm underwater mines and what not. At least they are not live. Plus they are running 5 to 10 miles a day sounds like boot camp all over again. This week is Navy week downtown on the river front. I went down today and saw all that Brian was learning to do. I even got to use a robot that disarms the bombs that was really neat. They had the guys in the dive tank and they had the leap frog team down there jumping out of the plane, they jumped out just above the Arch I got some really good pictures just have to have one of the kids down load them for me. The Navy band was really good. Tomorrow is Navy Day at Bush Stadium.
I hope all is well at your end. Did you husband find another job?
Take care.
Blessings to you and your family

Thank you for your comment. It is very frustrating. It is Easter today and I have heard nothing from my son via email at all.It would be nice if it was even a one liner email response.I do not think he is even on his laptop because I sent him an Easter ecard and it has not been looked at yet.I have not even recieved a snail mail response to when they are to arrive like the other mothers. This is my sons first deployment as well.At least he took in some time and now knows what he is in store for when he goes out on a full tour.I wish I could have gone to the homecoming but with the economy the way it is,there was no way.Well god bless to your sailor and god bless all our sailors on the carrier....
