Well, ladies. I hate to be a "downer", but just because the Navy says they will be leaving Meridian by Christmas, do not count on it. Mine was in Meridian waaaayyyy back when (20 years ago) and Christmas came and went without him. I did two things t…

Joyce, I am so envious! I can't walk the Rillito this time of year. I work until 2 a.m., so I can't get up in the cool of the morning, and I just don't feel safe walking it after dark. I have to content myself with a few miles on Pima at 10 p.m. Loo…

Dawn, It is an old story, with very few twists. My son announced his engagement during his boot leave. He was engaged to a girl who had a baby boy and Walt wanted to be that baby's daddy (bio-dad was in jail. sigh.). Nothing I could say or do; nothi…

Diane, Does your son think, like mine did, that Whidbey Island is the best kept secret in the Navy? He thought it was great duty and the only thing that compelled him to leave was recruitment duty in his home town, Spokane, WA. (Now, those were toug…

As I read the posts, finding out how difficult it seems to be to get officer recruiters to respond, I wonder if that isn't the first test to becoming an officer? Once they prove their tenacity and committment, maybe only then are they deemed worthy?…

I have to curb the urge to brag when I am talking to other mothers. So glad I don't have to do that here! (I have friends whose kids have not even explored their potential; they think mine are paragons of virtue. I don't contradict them. lol) My dau…

Thanks, Leanne. I'm gonna have to change my moniker here. My name is Laura. (I really do identify myself in other ways besides being Walt's mom!)

Hello, All! So glad to stumble onto this group. (I'm supposed to be working right now, so haven't had a chance to read the posts, will get to it soon.) I was just looking for a place to brag about my kid! He has been in for 19 years and got his comm…

I am now a Chief Mom. The ceremony was something that I will never forget. It was at the Navy Yard in Washington DC. This is something that my son has be waiting for and working for since he joined the Navy.

Walt's Mom, thank your son for all he does. I keep reminding my son, who keeps reminding me, that his success is based on the people around him. He's flying the old Ea6b right now (and slowly being decommissioned) and there are many days he can't get his flight hours in because of the need for maintenance. And good maintenance at this point is vital to him!

hello, missed you in the AZ group! I was a bit distraught with my son when you first appeared, but, all is well now. He is 19 and well, I guess that sums it up, LOL. It's great to have a mom with us that has so much experience!
You are a great addition to the group and we are sure happy to have you. just jump right in.
Our moderator, Peggy, has had a friend loose a child this week, so she is very busy with some pretty sad stuff, or she would have been in her to welcome you as well. anyway, see ya soon in AZ moms!

I noticed that you said your son was with the Kitty Hawk. My son was on one of the ships in the Kitty Hawks battle group the USS Curtis Wilbur out of Japan. When was your son on board? My son was on it in 2001.

My son just told us the dates that he will be pinned. We will be going to Washington DC for the ceremony. I was so excited I made the plane reservation the next day. I can't wait to see him in his new uniform. He has worked really hard to make chief something he has been working at since Boot Camp. Now to get him closer to home.

Did you go to your son's Chief's pinning ceremony? I tlaked to my son last night he sounded very tired. Said they will be in training for the next 6 weeks.
