I wasn't sure if changing would be possible without prejudice.

It took my son over 7 months. We changed recruiting offices because he has 5 or more that kept changing and were less than helpful. The second recruiting office was much better and stayed on top of things. He ended up on delayed entry but was admitt…

We met most of our quotas for FY-09 and were unable to process many people who were interested in joining unless their scores were phenominal. We are now in FY-10 as of Oct. 1st so any recruiters who were sitting back and being lazy were shooting th…

Recruiter - need to change - is this possible?

Hello All,

My son has been going in circles with his recruiter for almost 2 months now. He took the initial screening test for ASVAB and he was told a date and time to show up for the test. When he showed up, the recruiter said the test had been cancelled and that he had tried to call his cell number but kept getting a fax number....Not to mention he had his e-mail address. That was the week before Labor Day weekend. Then the recruiter told him another date and location and proceeded to go away… Continue

amz1956, Sorry it took so long to get back to you (it sounds like you have been getting alot of that lately). The process should not be as difficult as what you describe so I am not sure what is going on with his recruiter. Normally they will take the ASVAB at the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS). Most MEPS give the test every weekday morning and sometimes in the evening as well. Typically they would give your son the test and then have him go through the physical to ensure he was physically qualified and didn't need any medical consults or waivers. There is also a schedule of off-site ASVAB tests that are given at local high schools or at a community center but these are not as frequent. I'm not sure what and where your son's recruiter was scheduling the test. As for the number of jobs, right now we are looking mainly for applicants who qualify to go into the Nuclear Program and Naval Special Warfare (SEALS, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Air Rescue, Special Warfare Combatant Craft). The Nuke jobs require very high ASVAB scores and the Special Warfare require a high state of physical fitness. Having said all that, there are still opportunities for a variety of other jobs in the Navy, but your son will have to be patient. Because the Navy is such a great job we have had unprecedented success in filling the needs of the Navy. I would recommend your son complete his physical and test and ensure that he is completely qualified. Then it will be a matter of waiting for the jobs to start opening up. It could be a week, and it could be four months. Not what you want to hear I know but that is the reality. If he is serious about joining the Navy, it is worth the wait. He also may be fortunate enough to have a job open up fairly quickly. The most important thing is for him to get the physical and test out of the way to determine his eligibility. As far as dealing with his recruiter, every recruiting station has a recruiter in charge. Ask to speak to him or her if you feel your son hasn't been taken care of. Let me know if you want me to get ahold of someone for you and I can certainly take that on. Looking forward to more questions...
