Hey all!! Just checking in to see if your QM sailors had gotten their orders yet. My son just got his and will be heading to Mayport Fla. no later than the 25th of Sept. He should be getting leave soon to come visit us first!! Have a great day!!
Yes, Sandy, in fact, my husband is leaving tomorrow for a business meeting at the U of I. He would love to retire but alas, too many financial woes. The work keeps him mentally stimulated, though.
Sandy, don't give up yet. Your son could possibly get a week leave in October. Our son was able to get a leave two weeks before he left for deployment. The reward for your son's good grades and success in QM school is to be snatched up quickly and...
Question for everyone with a QM overseas. Our son got deployed to Japan in July. He seems to be working a lot and they have been out to sea since he got there. Do you think it will ever be possible to go visit him? He works so much and is out to s...

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
that you have to let them grow up and make their own decisions, its hard and i worry every day, but the navy molds them into fine young men and women.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
This was a maturing experience, This was the best decision he/she could have made
Hi Carol,
It has been awhile since we spoke. How the heck is Timothy doing in Japan? I think about you both. My son, Jan, is still planning on going to QM school as soon as he is done with the Ceremonial Guard. But lately he is concentrating on getting through the Inauguration day events. They have been training for hours everyday. It is tiring and stressful but will be over with soon. Then he will finally have a chance to come home!
Hope you had a great Christmas and New Years celebration. Also hope I hear from you soon.
My son Shea is going to Quartermaster School when he gets back to GL. We live in Leavenworth, WA. He is excited but wondering who he could find out what the school is like? My children grew up with a very special Great Aunt and Great Uncle that used Ferries from Vashon to Seattle everyday. My son would love to work as a Captain in this venue. Could you send us more information regarding the Quartermaster schooling, what it entails, what to expect, etc.? Thanks so much. My son is home until Jan. 3 he leaves at 6am.
Thank you for the heads up,
Linda
Hello, It was great to hear from you.I know all about spending all your time with your son.It just flys by when they are home.James left for Norfolk 9-3.It was harder than when he left for boot camp. He leaves for open sea 9-11.They head to new york in Oct. for some kind of show. Then from there i don't know. The greatest adventure begins for both our sons.James likes life on the ship. so far anyway:).Tell Timothy I wish the best of everything for him.And thank you for being a part of keeping us all safe, hang in there Mom.Alice
Hello Carol,Its been A while. How is Timothy doing?James said he wishes he was going to Japan.James should graduate on the 8th if all goes well.
then he can come home before going to Norfolk.Keep in touch. Alice
Hi again carol, Yeah it is great that he finally has something to move him forward. He was so tired when I spoke to him, but it was 10 pm there so he had probably been up since 5AM. From what I read, he won't get more than 2 hrs sleep a night at this new boot camp in DC. Thatz right - he has to go thru another 6-8 weeks of boot camp for the CG. I hope you'll keep in touch with me too and let me know how it goes with Timothy in Japan.
carol - It is so great that Timothy is warming up to the idea. I think it would be so exciting to go to Japan!
I just got a call from my son, Jan. Instead of going to A school to be a QM, he has been accepted into the Ceremonial Guard. He leaves for Washington, DC in 3 days to begin a new boot camp for 7 to 9 weeks. Luckily I'm originally from Maryland, close to DC and we have a lot of family and friends in that area.
Hi carol - I'm so GLAD to hear Timothy is going to Japan instead of Iraq. Sure, state-side would be even better, but What a relief that he isn't in a war zone. I know it is heart-wrenching just the same, for him to be gone for 2 whole years! But I guess as mothers of a sailor, we have to know this might happen.
How does Timothy feel about this? Is he excited? Does he like sushi? Do you know the name of the ship he'll be on?
I looked up Timothys ship very cool.Japan is cool, he is getting to see the world. and we should both be seeing our sailors soon.Thats what matters.Alice PS. tell Timothy way to go
James got his orders today. He is going to Norfolk He is going to be on the USS NASSAU he is really happy because he had just talked to me the other day about this kind of ship and how he would like to be on one. Now how cool is that. They also moved James to a different dorm, its alright he likes it,These guys aren't slobs.
